Great story, Ron, and a wonderful example. Just a lovely cent!
It clearly helps to sell it to someone who will appreciate it as much as you did. Eases the pain.
Now that you’re flush with cash, can I have a loan?
Dave
Bwhaahahahahaha.....you DO KNOW that I have a kid that just started college, right?
There IS a flushing sound you hear, but it is cash going the other way....away from me!

I was saddened thinking your dog died reading the title
I seriously refused to open this post for day's thinking the same thing because I recently lost my Cat, Mini of 15 years and truthfully it still hurt's. However I can see Bochiman's Sadness and a parting with a unique coin but I can also see some happiness that it's going to a good home.
Really a nice journey for you, and the coin.
Fantastic beauty it is, and spectacular for the grade!
I just recently retired, sold our home, and moved after and exceptionally difficult few months. Following all this, as a gift to myself, I purchased a nice 55 DDO, long overdue, for my collection, 55 being my birth year and all, I thought it about time.
After a bit of searching, I picked up a pretty nice PCGS 63 RB.
Nice as it is, it doesn’t come close to yours, and it’s a RB!
Sweet!!

Again, a big thank you to Mr Mark Feld, 15+ years ago, for working with me on this. I had it on a "want list" with him, and he didn't bother with "average, everyday, mundane" pieces. When he picked this up, he immediately contacted me, sent it, and I paid...no hesitation.
He is a man with a great eye for great coins!
I've enjoyed owning this piece and I know the new owner will as well.
There are some coins that are easily replaceable, even if they are "key dates", as we all know (always some example of them available...in various grades), and then there are some that you just can't see yourself being able to replace when you do let them go.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

That is one BEAUTIFUL piece !! Probably the nicest example I’ve ever seen.
Be happy and carry on🤪
IMO, if that's not the most exquisite '55 I've ever seen I would appreciate someone posting a photo of a better one.

Crazy eye appeal and cool factor on such an iconic coin. Now that's how to build an exciting Lincoln set!
