What do you think the biggest problem is??????

In online and offline collecting. Please state one response for each. Such as mine below.

Online: People think that you should trust them more then they should trust you. Also they don't do as they say so I have found that most people online lack in the moral department.

Offline: People think that just because you can see there card that they can sell it for prices that are as much as ten times what they cost online. One could buy ten of the same card and they are sure to get at least one card at the same grade.

Online and Offline: Dealers who want PSA graded prices for raw cards. Just try to buy some nice 60s and 70s raw commons and dealers start quoting prices from the PSA auctions that just closed. Not a good way to do business!!
  • Online- having to trust someone you've never met. Not a problem here so far, Thank Goodnessimage

Offline- I'm a dealer sooo... I probably have a different take on this than most of you. But I can't stand it when people start busting out the magnifying glass on a card listed at $40, that i'm selling for 1/2 Beckett. Give me a break! I sell most of my cards for about 50% of Beckett and some joker gets out a magnifying glass to see if he can get it graded so the value of a raw $40 card to a graded $200 card, I'm selling the thing at $20. Grading is fine for collections and such, but it has ruined the secondary market.

By the way, I will never send a card to get graded, or trade for a graded card at rediculous prices. I have a couple that came with lots and stuff, but grading for profit just sucks!

  • Online: People always expect to buy at Ebay prices (without the hassle of being sniped or bidding). Others basically want you to GIVE them the cards.

Offline: Singles are priced at book + tax (no matter what it is).
  • Online - I have to agree with Autobilia..I once had a guy want to buy a game used off me, booked at something like $30, and wanted me to sell at $6, because he could get it on eBay for that price.

Offline - Most dealers want book for the cards. I went to a card shop yesterday, with like $20, and couldn't even afford a game used. They wanted full book for each card! But, I said most, I know another dealer, who sells for like 1/3-1/5 of book, I bought an Ozzie Smith gu for $10 worth $40.

  • yeah, card shops are the worst. They want to charge full book price for cards they pulled out of boxes that they get cheap being dealers. I sell almost all my cards when I do shows for 1/2 beckett.

  • I don't mind paying book for a card I want, but dealers want book for cards that have been sitting there for months.

I can't stand how some sellers won't even think about talking about a trade. It is either their price or no sale. Cards sitting and collecting dust doesn't turn a profit

  • Online-Actually,our experiences online have all been great for the most part. Here at CU & eBay & online card stores we have had the best of luck & made some really good friends along the way.

Offline-Totally different story.Where we live we have 3 hooby shops & they are all garbage. They are some of the unhappiest people who look like they hate their lives, overprice all the products, could care less about customers & somehow manage to stay in business.CJ & I
talk about picketing the stores with signs telling people how bad they are getting ripped off!!LOL

Thank the Lord for trade sites like CU & online card stores like Charm

Heh, I'm somewhat guilty of that, but I'm not GIVING my cards away. Not hurting for money, so I can afford to let them sit. Whenever they do finally sell, I get what I want (which is usually 1/2 book delivered). I never buy cards to re-sell. So, profit doesn't comes to mind. But I think 1/2 book delivered is more than reasonable when buying.

Oh, and if a person has something on my wantlist, I may trade. But I'm not trading for anything I don't want. That defeats the purpose and selfish on the person who wants to trade's part. Trade is a mutual situation, not one sided.
  • Online-Having competition for a card, for example this has happened many times to me where we are just about to complete the deal and then i get a response of it has been traded or sold to someone. As it ends up they are just looking for the best deal they can get. Which is very frustrating especially when you think that you are giving a good deal and are ready to send. lol

Offline-I have 1 awesome cardshop a few miles away that has a great selection and he sells at 1/2 beckett price. He's a nice guy and if you're looking for something he doesn't have he will take an ad out in the paper to see if he can get it for you. So no complaints there.

Auto I am mostly talking about shops in in for the money that want 100% of beckett for a card worth only about 25% at the most. I won't pay more then 75% online and I shouldn't be expected to in a card shop either. Especially if I have been in the shop 4 times in a month and the same card was sitting on the shelf.

Card shop have overhead. Online doesn't. They are leasing the shop space (about $1100/month), electricity, money tied up in product, etc. Yu can sell from anywhere online and have less overhead to no overhead.

But if I was to offer $75 for a card that has been sitting on their self for a month at least and is worth only $100. I would think that they would take it. Or at least say they would take less then $100. such as $90 or something

75% book is what most sell for. I guess it all depends on how much they paid for it.
  • online: rip offs, inaccurate descriptions, bad trading habits

offline: less options (usually a store only has packs/boxes/and good singles, but it's hard to find a specific card you want), everything is more expensive most of the time

  • ONLINE TOSS UP $3.50 SHIPPING CHARGE FOR A SINGLE CARD AND THE SELLER WILL NOT ALLOW AN SASE/ OR SHILL BIDDING AND THEY RETRACT THEIR FINAL BID WHICH WAS THE ONE THAT OUT BID YOU-SO U R NOW THE HIGH BIDDER AND THE WINNER AND END UP PAYING ABOUT 35% MORE BECAUSE OF THE SHILL.-

OFFLINE-I HAVE TWO SHOPS THAT ARE GREAT. SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH THERE IS ONLY ONE GOOD ONE WITH A LITTLE SELECTION IN SAN FRANCISCO-THEY HAVE ALL GONE OUT OF BUSINESS.
I DISLIKE IT WHEN THEY SELL THE BOXES AT FULL RETAIL MARK UP-WAY OVER WHAT ANYBODY NORMALLY CHARGES ( BUT HEY ITS THEIR STORE AND THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT AND I CAN ALWAYS WALK OUT-WHICH I ALWAYS DO )
