STRONG Pricing on Standing Lib FH Quarters on GC!

The auction of the Mystic River Collection of SLQ's ended tonight on GC. I recently started an SLQ FH Registry set, and had my eye on the 1918 MS66FH PCGS w/CAC and the 1920 MS66FH PCGS w/CAC. This thread is NOT intended at all to get into another back and forth useless CAC discussion, but is intended just to express my surprise at the VERY strong pricing realized.
I always place my bids on GC in the last 10 seconds or so, and my bidding is always very aggressive on coins I like. However, the bids placed much earlier today easily surpassed the maximum I was willing to bid based on my pricing research, so I never bid.
While the RETAIL CAC CDN Price Guide is only one of the many factors I look at when I research pricing, I'll show just that part of my research here:
1918 MS66FH - CAC Retail Price Guide = $6,250. Actual price realized based on 10% bp = $7,700.
1920 MS66FH - CAC Retail Price Guide = $3,250. Actual price realized based on 10% bp = $7,700. Wow!!!!!
Here are the hotlinks to the two coins:

Congratulations to the consignor, as well as the new owner(s) (my guess is the high bidder on each of the two is likely one person).

To master ones series, one must Strive to understand entirely why coins Perform as they do.
Tonight at GC, I was underbidder on a $20,000 coin that sold (exact coin) within the last year for around $30,000 at Legend. I lost by less than $100 and had no interest in paying $1 more for the coin tonight. The $30,000 recent sale meant nothing to me and a (layman) outsider looking at simply the data points IMHO could not draw the proper conclusions on anything surrounding this coin from either the $30,000 recent sale or Ian’s $20,000 sale tonight.
Good answer Ian.
Just my 2 cents.

You obviously know where you need to be in order to win the nice material but I'm worried about the folk (or folks) that lost the 10 grand last year.

I share your worry. That is why I urged everyone to master their series and study prices realized over a long period of time before diving in.

That was a very exceptional grouping of standing liberty quarter dollars.
It was a special set that had been in strong hands, for years, with many keys and high grade examples.
I, too, have noticed that people are no longer sniping but are max bidding early.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I was watching some of the lots in my list. They were very pretty! Congrats to the winners!
