I woke up to this article a few minutes ago. Did Belichick take a little jab at Gronk, or is he just praising George Kittle?

The phrasing stood out to me at first too. Taken literally it means Kittle is as good as Gronk.
Yes, it stood out to me as well.
I've said this before I know, so excuse my repitition. If Gronk had stayed retired he would have become only the second player ever, the first bring Gale Sayers, to be elected into the HOF while having retired before age thirty. This fact in itself speaks to the kind of player Gronk was (is) and also shines light on how amazing his production was considering years played and games missed due to injury.
I certainly believe Gronk to be the best tight end of all time. I wonder what Bill was getting at with his comments?
Belichick has a habit of effusively praising opponents just before a matchup. The reason for those comments? This week's schedule.

Yes, he does. But he could have chosen to say "about as good as" or "almost as good as" instead of "as good as".
Everything he says has an ulterior motive behind it. Gronk is not a member of the Pats anymore.

That could be true, but there's nobody I would rather have than Travis Kelce. Everybody knows on second down
and long or third and 5-10 that Mahomes will be looking for Kelce, but he seems to always get open anyway.
If he doesn't and he's being blanketed then one of the wide receivers will be open.
Gronk and Kelce are the same age. Gronk looks old, tired and worn out. Kelce looks young and energetic
like he could dominate for another 7-8 years.
Gronk may be the best blocking TE of all time as well, Kelce, not so much. It takes a lot out of your body.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Kelce came into the league at 23 as opposed to 20 for Gronk. Kelce has proven to be more durable. Kelce's style of play will allow him to accumulate stat after stat. Gronk reached the pinnacle of TE receiving and scoring success while also being able to
(and enjoying) blocking like a lineman.
I agree with @craig44 although there is no doubt in my mind I would be plenty happy with Kelce like @Darin is if I was a KC fan.
yes bill is a POP TART . he pulls this crap all the time. He sucks even as a coach now , the pats will go 2-14 this year after losing to denver
He definitely took a shot at Gronk and I’m ok with it, he abandons the Pats last year when they really needed him and then follows Brady to Tampa. I’m sure it pissed him off. For the record I got no issue with Gronk taking the year off though.
he is such a tool though , he can shut his gob about all these leather helmet bozos like anyone cares about them
