What say you about this biggie spot on a proof buffalo nickel? slabbed one at that.

That’s a “but for” coin and I could not enjoy the beauty of the rest of the coin since my eye would always center on the tumor. I’d throw that one back into the sea and find a better one.

Probably wouldn't even notice the spot in person.

Maybe not in the Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder Collection. How would you not see the spot?

The spot covers less than 1% of the coin. I chose to enjoy looking and admiring the other 99%.
Kind of how I also view life. Instead of dwelling on negative I view the positive.

That spot is black and is in a prime focal area. How can you not see it? I doubt if CAC would approve this coin for a sticker.

And that's all that really matters anymore. >:)

On a serious note, I wouldn't touch it even in the unlikely scenario it stickered.

Is it possible for one of the coin conservation experts at one of the major grading services to remove that ugly distracting spot without removing all the colorful toning?

If it was my coin, I would at least ask about conservation. That looks like one of those spots that keeps growing. I see them more and more on high graded/cac'ed silver, especially Walkers.

yes, cameonut, it is a sad reality of today's Hobby participants that this is often a major consideration. along a similar line of thinking, I wonder what the opinion of many would be if the coin had a CAC sticker, would they like it more??

The spot on the coin ruins it and I would not have it in my collection.

    Also.........

Cindy Crawford has a mole and thus I would not go on a date with her.

Maybe, just maybe I am crazy........ on both counts. :)

I may be seeing things, but it looks like a hole in the surface due to corrosion.

It does look like a hole, and a deep one at that. There appears to be a similar but smaller spot below the 6 in the date. I wonder what would cause such a thing on a proof coin.

You can visualize it as convex or concave. Me thinks its convex, I have one :) with a booger, not quite as obvious.
OP's could be beef jerky or buffalo burger.

I think the spot is the most attractive attribute of that coin.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I'm guessing that conservation was not attempted, or even considered, due to fear of losing the color.
