Alex Gordon 4Ever Royal

I know there are those out there that pooh pooh left fielders defensive importance, but if you actually watched him play, his defensive prowess was unmatched. He routinely would make amazing catches, gun down runners, or just the mundane getting the ball in so quickly the runners couldn't dare to try for an extra base. This is one of my favorites.
.

.

Gordon retired on Sunday, in front of a crowd of only his family and his teammates, having played his entire career with the Royals. I'm sure they'll bring him back once it's safe to have big crowds for a pregame ceremony where he can soak in the cheers he deserves for representing the team and the city with class.

One of Alex Gordon's signatures was the pine tar mark on the back of his uniform cause by his follow through.
.

.
So, current teammates and former teammates honored him across the league on Saturday by playing with their own uniforms marked in similar fashion. Hosmer got a little carried away.

Here's a couple of videos for the Gordo fans out there.

I saw that he retired. A great Royal for sure. I read that he Frank White and George Brett were the only Royals to Play with the team for that long.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I feel like it was only yesterday that he graduated from Nebraska and signed with the Royals.

I think they qualified that stat as the 3rd longest "only Royal" career. I believe McRae, Otis, and Wilson all have more games played in a Royals uniform than Alex. Still, a great career. He was appreciated here, and he will be missed.

as a Cleveland Indians fan I got to see Alex Gordon 19 times a season. strangely, while I only attended 1-2 games each season more often than not it was against Detroit or KC, most often the Royals. it was weird.

Gordon was one of those "dependable" players that always showed up and you had a pretty good idea what you'd get from him. I hated him at the plate in close games at the end of the season!! he was funny to watch because his uniforms always seemed baggy. at a time when players around MLB were going to the "knicker" look and tight uniforms, Alex Gordon was baggy and dragging on the ground.

I wonder how much his career was shortened by injury?? these last 2-3 seasons he didn't seem as fluid as in the past, still willing to give himself up and hustle, just not with the same intensity as in earlier years. he's the kind of player that will almost certainly never make the MLB HOF, though judged by his character and heart he is a better choice than a lot who have entered. his highlights are obviously winning back-to-back World Series Titles, but he also won seven Gold Gloves in 14 seasons. that's pretty good. R(etire)IP, Alex!!! B)

Count- great post, Alex always played hard and played to win.
I'll always remember the world series home run against the Mets when their reliever had shut down
everyone all season long. Maybe Gordons' finest moment as a Royal. I believe it tied the game in the ninth
and the Royals won in extra innings?
Keets- loved your post and I wish he had won back to back world series titles but they lost in 2014 to
basically Madison Bumgarner with just a little help from his teammates and then beat the Mets in 2015.
Gordo celebrating his world series dinger....
