My bulk sub of 501cards popped yesterday nearly 7 moths after being logged but about over 9 months since being sent. I have never gotten so many 7s and lower on a sub before. Many were thick early jersey cards and qc by companies weren’t always the best. But still there weren’t that many. By the way I have a graded Favre record setting consecutive games streak ticket and 1991 Rookie unopened pack showing Favre if you’re ever interested. It doesn’t look like I could find a better keeper for those items anyway.

I don't even send in Relic cards, they are brutal with those and it pissed me off. Also, thick cards are hard to gem as well. Looks like you had a lot of jersey cards in there and that is a hard one to swallow.

Depending on the issue I can say from experience myself PSA graders are tough on jersey cards. I sent in some jersey cards that are PC for my Fisk collection and was both surprised and disappointed. Haven't gotten to scan lately but will show my foray . Expect 6-7 on most Fleer & UD issues. Topps will depend on which issue. DLP items 2000-05 were the best produced QC wise- should do well on those I got lots of 8,9, and 10 on those.

Not quite that extreme. First, all are for my personal collection. Second, quite a few are low serial numbered cards (a good number of them are numbered less than 20). The value of what I paid for them raw didn't take a hit.

breaking your bulks up into smaller subs helps alleviate the chances of hitting the G.O.D. eggs and a basket.

i find theres less possibility of damage during the shipping home process. especially these days. had to be some pretty heavy boxes.

also find it helps on the intake. smaller batches seem to be easier to reconcile and not so much of a mountain, esp when they suck. i remember getting to line 150 one time, just looking for a sign of a life jacket, only to be tossed an anchor for the next 150 and just continued sinking into the abyss.

just a suggestion, but if there is a next one, perhaps break it up into 5 100 card subs, since that seems to be the bulk price break point.

anyways, sorry to hear. especially after 3/4ths a year time.

I'd be surprised if others don't take that same path...I have a suspicion the new graders are just way too harsh/excessive with their grades, and a lot of folks are probably going to stay on the sideline for a bit to see if things get any better...all any of us are asking for are fair and honest grades...

As a Vikings fan, I fully support whoever graded your sub. JK, JK. I always break my subs up in to 50/100 as I do also 100% believe in the g.o.d. I've sent too many of the exact same card not to have a great eye and I've been submitting to PSA since I quit doing shows 25 years ago. Recently, I've noticed more subs find their way to the g.o.d. and I can think of only a single two word answer......review submission.

splitting up your subs also lets you get a better feel of your own grading eye. if 1 outta those 5 comes back w/ crap results then it's most likely the G.O.D. conversely, if 3 outta those 5 come back w/ crap results, it's time to book an ophthalmologist appointment.

I feel your pain. It does seem grading standards have tightened up which only serves to burn me up when I see junky cards in high grade holders.

Ouch, that hurts! If you had limited your submissions to 50-card lots and had spread them out over a few weeks, I believe your results would have been markedly better. I've never exceeded 50 cards in a submission and can't really complain about my results. I'm not one for wasting money!

Yes I would avoid the thick jersey patch cards for now. I submitted the best patch cards I had from Leaf Trinity and pulled only 1 10, a few 9's, and a bunch of 8s. I rarely have gotten less than a 9 on those cards.

Got them back earlier this week. Just starting to go through them.

I understand why some people think breaking them up is a good approach. But to be honest that wasn't the issue here. If you look at many of the regular subbed cards they graded good. I have had plenty of 500 card subs that have come back with great grades...its more the issue of the thick cards. Some of which I know were not 8's.

First, The mere fact that you could get "The Grader Of Death" speaks volumes of the process. Think about it.

Meanwhile, reminiscing a bit here, when I started with PSA back in the mid 90's, I heard stories but never really got the "Grader Of Death"...yes, that name has been around awhile.
I have not always agreed with PSA's given grader on certain cards, but admit they generally do a really good job.
I have, sadly, watched friends get absolutely hosed on submissions. We used to piggyback and do large subs. We'd call Joe--yes!-- actually call him, and he'd set us up with subs of 1000 cards or so. REALLY good dude, by the way. Excellent ball player, too. I never sent my cards in those bulk subs. I always went separately in 50 to 100 card subs. When I built my sets, I'd have Steve Hart or some other good guy/dealer alert me when they broke product and then followed those submissions. Those were HUGE subs and the grading varied--as it should. No preferential treatment, etc. He'd get hosed on some and have good luck with others.
Now, I don't submit to PSA anymore (not because of PSA so much as I just spend more on old cardboard than new plastic these days), but I would imagine you still just get the grader you get. The submission size wouldn't matter except it WOULD hedge your downside a bit.
Question for you...Thick cards have different standards? What does one look for on those? Is there a nuance to them?
