Just a thought...

I've been out of town for the past week and hadn't read any of the topics until last night and this morning. One thing I found interesting was the issue of the 12 hour extension for the "contest". Why it was done seems alright, to me. My understanding is it wasn't a Registry participants fault, it was a computer glitch. A glitch that seems to have been there for some time.
My underlying thought, though, is this...
What has the Registry turned we "collectors" into? The spirit of competition is one thing. But waiting until the last second to add a coin for fear someone will better you if they see what you've done is silly for a piece of paper. Has this really been done? I know there were a couple of threads on this topic in recent months. On the other hand, coins from auctions and those in transit have to be able to be entered one hour before the deadline, just as if they had been entered a week before the deadline.
As for me, PCGS can keep my paper. Someday, hopefully not too soon, someone else will own my coins and may put together a better set. In the Two Cent series I can better 2 coins (if they are ever offered). So what does it matter. I collect for fun. The Registry has been, and continues to be, fun for me. It's an avenue to show off my sets, complete and in the process.
Then there's the fact that many of the sets listed are only the "finest listed", and not the "finest in existance". It shouldn't take away from the collectors effort to complete a set. But if the set can't be a "finest in existance", can PCGS give and award making that claim?
