Ebay Gift card! No coins?

This is something I just don't understand. You have to pay for the card with real money but it can't be used to buy money on Ebay.

Gift card restrictions
There are a few restrictions to keep in mind when using eBay gift cards:

You can’t use an eBay gift card to buy bullion, coins, paper money, virtual currency, coupons, or other gift cards

Well the wife didn't know what to get me for my birthday but she knows I always shop ebay. Here came the gift card. Lol

It is weird but you could use it to get some numismatic related things like books, coin albums, supplies, and the like.

Probably some financial regulation as to the transfer of money.

My electric company requires ID for payment in cash for $25 bill.

Over the past year (?) or so I have seen some comments on EBay and it's relation to coins. Is there something happening?

For a while someone had one ounce silver maples leaves in the sports section; maybe that got taken down.

I try to do the same at Walmart. They keep throwing me out of the store.

Coins used to be allowed with gift cards. For awhile, Kroger had a promotion where you get a bunch of extra fuel points with gift card purchases, so I would buy a ton of ebay gift cards to use on coins, and basically get my gas for free. I was sad when ebay stopped allowing coin purchases (and don't really understand why they did that).
