chemically altered to appear as an error
Are you referring to yellow seal?
You will get the best responses on the forum when you post photos showing the entire coin or note front & back.

Originally a Red seal and changed to a Yellow Seal post-BEP. A faux error often seen on planet eBay.
Thank you. Been in the family since the 1930’s. If true, someone did an excellent job on the color. Cannot distinguish it from the yellow on the other north african notes that I have.
One of the above photos is a full frontal but it posted as partial.
Why do you post them sideways ?
Lock34: I'm afraid the folks are right. Your note has been altered but why I cannot fathom. It's a good job and someone went to a lot of work but the condition of the bill doesn't make it that desirable. Now I could be wrong; I no 'expert' so maybe continue your research. Thanks for posting an interesting note.
Thank you. Will have someone take a look at it in person for a final determination. Has been in my mother’s possession for many years. Would have had to have been altered sometime in the 1930s.
I am a horrible, horrible person😁😁😁
Here is a nice explanation

...probably a bleach issue...mother kept it after it went through the wash because it looked funny
She had thousands of coins and many notes. Most from her Dad😁
Nice explanation. Thank you!
Anyone know any suckers who collect five dollar notes.................
just keep it..from your mother and you know it's worth $5
😁👍😁
Spend it 😐
Selling it to a sucker who collects five dollar notes seems more sporting😁😁😁
