Asian coin: what is it?

My wife and I found this coin on our daily walk in the neighborhood. Can someone identify where it's from and what the denomination is?

Thanks in advance!

When in doubt, don't.

Yep. The top image (the one with the 100 on it) says in Japanese at the bottom that the coin was issued in the second year of the Heisei era (Akihito's second year as emperor) which is 1990.

The reverse of the coin (which is upside down) says Japan at its top (the bottom of the image) and the bottom of the coin (top of the image) says 100 yen.
