Graded set singles vs extra singles

If I have two of the same card graded, one pulled from a set, one a single. Would the recommendation be to put the lower graded one back in the set?

Hard to say since I am not sure what your goal here is.... If you want a complete raw set, then sure, go for it.

  • I'm selling my singles, but also grading keys in the set and want to sell the whole set. 1986 Fleer Basketball.

As long as you are honest with the condition of the lower graded ones I see no issue.

  • But what I want to know is, which card should I put back with the set? Say one got a 7 and one got a 9. Which one would be better to sell alone and which one back with the set?

I'm not sure if the set you're selling is entirely graded, entirely raw, or already a mixed set.

If mostly or entirely raw, normally, I would suggest selling both graded cards individually and buy a third raw card to put in your set to complete it before selling it, as well. That would likely net you the most profit under normal circumstances. Unless the specific graded card is one known for having a large counterfeit population, like, say a Jordan in this instance. You don't say what the card is that you're grading, but if it's Larry Bird or Larry Nance or Larry Drew, no one is really going to pay you much of a difference for the entire set based on whether it has a 9, a 7, or a raw card in its place.

  • I'm just grading the keys in the set that I figured were worth getting graded based on their condition. I don't want to be stuck with the set with out keys at this point, I want to get rid of it. So getting 2 Jordans, Barkley, Malone, and a few others graded. Same with the stickers.

So in theory, I'd sell one single, then a set with regular cards and a few graded.
