Found these in a shop in London a while back. Gaming tokens styled after spade guineas. Anyone know if they are really from 1797 or just a random date?

There’s a fairly recent English book called “Toy Money” that may discuss these. I never managed to get a copy as the publisher (galata.co.uk) ran out when I inquired.
Maybe the ANA has a copy they could loan you? Or try the ANS library.
Have to look that one up.
