PWCC Return Policy - Bids being restricted?

NGS428NGS428 Posts: 2,327 ✭✭✭✭✭

Has anyone actually returned an item with PWCC AND had future bidding restricted? I have no idea what to think of this. So if you are a big player you don’t have to follow eBay’s rules? Just trying to strong arm the buyer?

PWCC Returns policy per email I received:
Please know that our return policy differs from eBay's and is not a no questions asked policy. A return of this nature is outside of our policy and will likely lead to future bidding being restricted from our auctions upon review. Please confirm if you would still like to proceed with the return and I will get a return shipping label for you right away if you so choose.

Ebay listing is 14 days free returns.

What is “a return of this nature” in your particular situation?

@LGC $55 card that I asked to return because I bought it in error. Didn’t match the PSA set I thought it did. My bad on that. Asked for a return the day it delivered. Package is still sealed from them.

No mention of any potential bidding restrictions in the eBay listing.

Many sellers would likely block someone for a return like that. Not defending PWCC, but that is the reality of the situation.

I suppose it is their nice way of saying they will block you for any returns.

Not a huge deal. My mistake, I can just sell it to someone who can use it.

I've mistakenly bought cards I already have, more times than I care to admit; as I'm sure many other collectors have.

I just chalk it up to age-related memory loss and put the card in the resale stack. I've never asked to return a card in that situation, as my not remembering, is not the dealer's fault.

My guess is that there are too many people abusing ebays return policy and this is one way they can follow ebays policy yet still set their own rules.

I did a return with them in May, 2019. They issued a refund, but also blocked me from any future bidding. Oh well...

    Was it the sellers fault?

14 days is an eternity to return something! I have had people try and return stuff because they got it cheaper almost two weeks later.. 2 or 3 days from the time you receive should be plenty of time in my eyes..

Last night I received a return request for a 2012 Prizm Damian Lillard PSA 10. Last Tuesday I accepted a best offer of $2500 and Express Mailed to buyer who received it Wednesday. Buyer is claiming "item not as described", the color is off and PSA makes mistakes on grading. Today, you can buy the same PSA 10 card for $1500......... a $1000 cheaper. I'll get screwed. Anyone have some extra KY or Vaseline to ease the pain?

“mistakes on grading” should not be acceptable SNAD. While we can say some 10s are better than others, what’s on the flip is on the flip.

In this situation I would contact eBay and explain what you just told us here before accepting the return.

Several times over the years I have heard that PWCC blocks bidders that return cards.

  • 19591959 Posts: 629 ✭✭✭

Tell them " card appears to have been altered." You will get a quick response.

People are also using the return policy to get cards in hand, view them to see if it can get a premium grade to increase its value and if not, return it at the cost of the seller. I understand it is a way some make money, but its starting to get out of hand where people are buying a $1000 card to see if they can get it graded and get it for more and when they realize its "just" a $1000 card, they return it. If scans are put up, cards should never be automatically be allowed to returned unless the seller chooses to accept it. Such is the life on ebay whereby a few corrupt buyers ruin it for everyone trying to sell

  • I returned a card to PWCC about a year ago. Once I had the card in hand it was obvious that it had been trimmed and was undersized compared to other graded cards of the same issue. I forwarded pics to PWCC to prove my point and PWCC apologized that I received a trimmed card. They immediately accepted my return request and issued a refund. I was not banned from bidding in future auctions, as I believe they knew my complaint was legitimate.

Flash forward a couple of months and the same card was back on the PWCC auction block. I wanted to make sure it was the same card so I checked the cert # and sure enough it was. It obliviously was a graded card and I'm sure the consignor bitched about the return. Maybe that's why they felt compelled to auction it a second time. Not really sure.

Well, that depends on who you ask...

If PWCC just listed the card asis with the grade, then I would have kept the card or dealt with the company that graded it. But PWCC added their own opinion about the card, which probably helped persuade me to go ahead and buy it (around $1,750). You can see the discussion and the actual card in question here. It is what it is... I can live without sending them my money.

This return purely coincides with Damon Lillard suffering a knee injury last night in the 3rd quarter that had him miss the rest of the game and could possibly keep him out of game 5.

Good. That’s what they get for not being professional graders but pretending to be professional graders.

Put me in the camp that doesn't want a trimmed card even at a higher grade. If I know it's been trimmed, I just can't unsee it and really don't want it in my collection. I do however understand how others may feel differently. IMO, people that prefer a higher graded trimmed card over a non trimmed card are just buying the TPA grade and not judging the merits of the card for them self. Just my opinion.

A trimmed PSA 10 or PSA 8 is a wrongly graded PSA Authentic. If at some point a TPG finds a technology that reliably detects after market trimming, many of our cards will be devalued ( I think this is possible at least for vintage). I do not knowingly have any trimmed cards in my collection but statistically I must have some. I cannot imagine buying a card I know is trimmed.
