Anyone ever gotten this message from Ebay after trying to pay for items won from a seller?

"One or more sellers can't accept payments right now. Contact the sellers for help."

What does that mean? I have reached out to seller but no response....

My interpretation is they have an issue with their paypal account......but I'm not sure.

They probably don't accept Managed Payments. EBAY putting down the hammer??

@MLBdays ..... I laugh but the thought did cross my mind..... If a seller can clog up the avenue of a successful transaction temporarily to vacate a sale ... it could be exploited.

That didn’t load. Post a screenshot?

If the seller doesn’t respond, and it sounds like they are not responding. I would contact eBay to see if they can give clarity or if they can contact the seller.

I did so ... ebay said the seller has to rectify his/her own relationship with paypal before payment can process..... no other specifics were given by ebay as ebay respected the privacy of the seller. Meanwhile I have a budget and if I do not purchase these cards from this seller there are cards I can be buying today, tomorrow etc.... that I am watching and likely missing out on while this episode clears.

Vague with no real sense of resolution.

Is this seller a one off or high volume seller? Not much you can do other than remind them, ask them, beg them to get it figured out. Sorry for that mess.

Hopefully it will clear up and I will make the purchase..... thanks for your ear.

Ebay idiocy. Where does it end? I guess I better go ahead and break out the Advil, I see a future Ebay headache approaching.

  • that happens when you try to pay more than seller with items you have in your cart. Try paying only one seller at the time.

  • ScoobyDoo2ScoobyDoo2 Posts: 839 ✭✭✭✭✭

@lawyer05 ........all four items are with one seller.....I spoke with ebay about this episode & they legitimized the issue the particular seller is having with paypal..... This is not an issue with paying a myriad of different sellers at once.

  • also happens when trying to pay for more than one item at the time

I've had a couple of instances where I couldn't pay and was getting error messages, contacted eBay and they were no help. I asked the seller to send me another invoice and was able to pay for that one.

I had this happen recently. Was able to contact Ebay and they suggested I ask for an invoice. Once the seller did that I was able to pay.

Here's the latest update folks..... A response from my seller hot off the press......

    _" Hey there,

Ok, here’s what’s up: if you sell more than 200 items and receive more than 20k in PayPal transactions via EBay, you need to provide tax info to PayPal. I’ve done that, I’m told by PayPal this should resolve shortly. Hopefully, today."

Voila ~ 200 items and 20k are the standards !! Happy Ebaying!

Here is day 4's update regarding this purchase gone awry: My seller's email to me regarding his plight:

    Hey there,

I’m sending the following message to all buyers unable to proceed to payment from my auction last Sunday.

I’m at my breaking point with PayPal, and EBay.

For the 4th day in a row since my auction, I was on with PayPal customer service in the am. Same feedback - thanks for providing requested info, issue will be resolved shortly. Today I was told my “ticket” was never forwarded to the next stage in resolution process, whatever that means. Sadly, it seems PayPal is in complete disarray, I’m sure due to the pandemic. That said, I’m completely out of patience and will be offering the following to you and the other 50 buyers unable to pay for their purchases from last Sunday:

    1. I can cancel your order, if you’d like to discuss further via email hit me up here:

    2. We can continue to hold until PayPal resolves, today I was told “give it 24-48 hours”.

Let me know how you’d like to proceed.

Big apologies for this. Extremely frustrating.

This is not the end of world ~ hardly ~but annoying and a reminder that patience is required in all matters .... I am going to hold out another 24 hours and then buy another item I have had my eye on if this sale gets away from me.....

this seller will not sell much of anything without paypal. just about all my payments are either paypal or a credit card

The 200/$20k is State-dependent. I know that's how it was in CA but it's much less than that in MA. I think MA is like $2k or $4k and Paypal 1099s you.

This could also be a case of the seller got a return that he isn't paying for. Paypal won't let him use his account until he settles up and he doesn't appear willing to do so. The "discuss further via email" could be an attempt to complete sales outside of eBay/Paypal.

@ReggieCleveland .... 2k -4k good grief..... is there also a minimum number of transactions as well?

My memory is pretty bad but I think it's like 100? I just remember it being 1/5 or less of what CA is.

I've had that happen a couple times and got a similar response. It was resolved in a few days.
