Old school Basketball Sets that don’t get the love they deserve

Wanted to highlight some old school basketball sets still underrated even after the run up:

The 1984 Star slam dunk celebrates the first ever NBA slam dunk contest and featured what most consider the 2nd best group ever to compete behind the 1985 class and of course featured the most famous and most memorable replicated dunk in the contest earning Dr J a 50 in the final round. Larry Nance pulls out the win though after Dr J misses a dunk in a format where you couldn’t replace dunks and only got a 25 score.

  • Agree. All the star sets are awesome. I understand the reservations some have about them but with some research and sticking to buying graded cards I feel they are an unbelievable value in today’s market. Print runs of around 4000 for the 84-86 sets are probably 2-5% of the print run of 86 fleer. Maybe one day PSA will finally start grading them. Hopefully after I’ve had time to buy up some more and maybe even get the holy grail, the Jordan 101. The 85 slam dunk Jordan maybe one of the best looking cards there is in any set.
