Apparently the package wants to tour the country first. Took Fedex Smartpost 10 days to get it local because apparently it needed to stop in Kansas and see the Wizard of OZ museum first.
Whereupon a USPS employee- probably sucking on some local cannabis legally purchased, or that drug called "ignorance" , couldn't read NORTH LAS VEGAS and sent it packing elsewhere. No joke folks.
So now this USPS package is in Denver (another wonderful cannabis territory) where I am praying their employees send it back again to NORTH LAS VEGAS where i know my local employees will do their jobs because most are personal friends . So I can finally get the card inside it

Oh- let's not fail to mention stuff I sent to Dallas , where the wonderful USPS sorting center being manipulated by our sitting President's appointee DISCONNECTED the high volume machines they use to read barcodes quickly , resulting in a package that normal takes 3 -4 days taking 3 WEEKS.

Let's hear about your nightmares with sportscards :s:s:s

I bought a couple of items recently that took a long time to get to me (actually, 2 items bought are still in transit "arriving late" after about 10 days).

With these USPS delays, I decided to stop selling for now. Last thing I want is to worry why the package I sent is taking so long to be delivered.

I used to have a mailman that was to lazy to bring my registered mail to my door for me to sign and he would always stick the little pink slip in the mailbox claiming I wasn't home. I can't count how many times he pulled that crap on me.

  • I once sent a package to beckett with insurance that completely disappeared in Texas.

Several of my packages have taken the scenic route from Greenwood, SC to Charlotte, NC. I think one went as far west as Kentucky before making a u-turn back east.

You guys don't know Postal trauma until you've lived in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. No air support, no ground support, THAT was the sh!t. I've been in the sh!t. I've got the thousand stamp stare. You guys are describing National Guard weekends in New Hampshire.

Most of my recent mail has been a little slower. A few packages have taken unusually long times though. So far, only 1 has gone missing. I do have 2 that are out 2+ weeks, one from Canada that is over 1 month and no tracking. The other is at 2 weeks, but the tracking has never updated after it was created. The Canada guy is helpful, the other guy is not.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I sent a bunch of vintage to Jeff for group sub. I live in Washington State and the cards decided to take a vacation in Honolulu for a week. In retrospect it wasn't that bad but boy was I sweating bullets.

I had a package, a couple years ago, go from Iowa to Hawaii, then to Guam and then a few more stops in the lower 48 before landing in WNY. At least my cards got to experience nice weather.

  • Recently (after the USPS "reorg"), a 2-day priority mail shipment from Texas took 11 days to arrive in NJ. The package sat in Shreveport for 6 days.

I started buying from ads in SCD in the late 1990's and have been selling for the last 10 years or so.

Nothing I would consider a "nightmare"!

The closest was a check came back to me damaged (yes we used to send personal checks!), I contacted the seller and sent another check. Took a little longer to get my item, but worked out fine.

Second "problem" was a Killebrew card I sold to another Killebrew collector that I had dealt with from time to time. Sent the card in a small Priority box and it got lost for a few days. Buyer contacted me, I assured him the item had been sent. Tracking said it was "in transit". He agreed to wait on filing a claim and the package showed up a few days later, somewhat worse for wear, but card was fine.

I am simply amazed at how well the USPS does their job! Happy that I have not had any items lost in 30 years of buying and 10 of selling.

went to print off a shipping label just now and saw this

as for my own experiences, for the first time in 20+ years as a seller i had my first USPS package vanish into thin air a couple of months ago

I had a package skip between Detroit and Lansing 4 times before I got it. So it passed within a couple miles of my house and the local post office 8 times.

I have always had great experiences with the USPS but lately things have been a bit slow. Without getting the thread shut down I think most people recognize that this is due to undemocratic political maneuvering and not the fault of the USPS workers.

I am worried I am about to experience a USPS nightmare though. I just bought a fairly expensive case and although I told the seller that shipping Fedex would probably be the cheapest for something this heavy, without informing me I can see today that he went ahead and shipped it USPS media mail. Have any of you guys had a seller do this? What are the chances this makes it to me, and will it have postage due on arrival do you think? I'm not sure how often they pull these for inspection.

I think you should Google "USPS media mail eligibility", if you haven't already. I'm thinking you are in for some headaches one way or another, especially considering what's going on across the nation.

The one and only time an eBay seller try to ship me something via media mail, it was a 1987 Fleer wax box, and it arrived beat all to hell. The display box had come apart at every corner, and one whole row of wax packs had significant dents. I took photos and messaged the seller. He quickly provided a full refund, and surprisingly paid for return postage, requesting me to send it back to him. Yes, he later relisted it for sale.

USPS has been very, very good to me. Last week I sold 2012 Prizm basketball cards of Damian Lillard and Kawhi Leonard. Sent them both Express Mail.... one was in state and delivered next day at 11:30 AM and one was to Florida also delivered next day at 1:09 PM. $26 & $27 for 19 hour delivery.

Found a white whale card back in January that I had been looking for for 30 years. I sent it to PSA using the Express level service. PSA graded and shipped it back to me. The card made it all the way to my local post office and was out for delivery. My lazy carrier dropped off my mail and no card. I got in my car and chased her down. She said she didn't have the package and it should come tomorrow. Well the package never arrived. Multiple trips to my post office to talk with the postmaster was futile. Calls to the postal inspector yielded no results. The package evaporated into thin air. Luckily it was insured and I got my money back but I would much rather have the card. My son, who is also a card collector, has standing orders to find one on my behalf once I am gone as I am too old and don't have another 30 years left in me to find that card again. I know hate is a strong word, but I honestly despise and HATE the Post Office. In my city, they are inept and lazy beyond compare. The new Post Office motto... "WE DON'T CARE"

I've had a package stuck in Chicago since August the 8th. It usually would have taken a few days to get to my home state of North Carolina from Chicago under normal circumstances.

currently happening as of today. I sold an uncut sheet of 71 topps, mailed it priority 2 day mail on the 10th in a heavy duty tub, it never even got an acceptance scan, post master said he is certain it was in a pile of mail in one of the local hubs. Said he would manual add acceptance to show my buyer good faith. Well the empty tube got delivered today. Tracking shows delivered, not rejected. Buyer has pics of mailman holding empty tube, this is a heavy duty tube and was over taped. I will try to contact post office but I am about to be out $1100. 00

  • OAKESY25OAKESY25 Posts: 4,726 ✭✭✭

also, how does the usps deliver an empty tube?? how is that not noticed and stopped and flagged well before it got delivered??

  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,238 ✭✭✭✭

Had an insured Priority box sit at the main PO for 2 weeks (after dropping it off at same PO) before any movement.

I'm currently at 146 days since payment sent for an item from Spain and god only knows where that package currently is. Bought it before the Covid lockdown then a few months later found out it made it to the post office in a city near me,sat there for a week then was sent back to Spain for "Insufficient Address." Correos tracking updated to shipped again and I had my local PO check to see if it made it back into their system yet but it hasn't. Kinda sucks because it was a Spanish Jordan card from '86 that I got for a really good price (before Jordan Mania) and to buy the same card now would cost me about 3-4x times more.

In a miracle hail mary pass, I asked my buyer to go to his post office since it is impossible to get someone on the phone. They found the sheet in the condition I sent it. No idea how it was removed from the tube in the first place but my buyer was beyond awesome and went above and beyond. Never expected this to have a happy ending.

Umm. Ok, wow! Would never have expected that. But that lottery ticket!

that was my lottery ticket. Thank god my buyer was so willing to be understanding and helpful.

  • Probably the worst sports memorbilia incident were 8 Mantle restaurant menus that the Postman folded in half to put them in my mailbox. I was so pissed to see the crease in half of them. I might have done some of the damage to them myself just getting them out. I almost took the mailbox off and considered taking the box & package to the post office so they could see the damage and retrieve them. I also received a vintage Pioneer Receiver that was totally destroyed. Dealing with the USPS on damaged items with insurance is it's on nightmare. You make a report and then never get to talk to anyone with a heartbeat after the claim is made.

No major issues, but I have noticed delivery is slow lately. Mailed a 1964 Topps Gino Cimoli, in a top loader, in a birthday card, to my brother in Florida on 20 July.

As of today, Gino has not arrived.

Smartpost is the worst. It is like 2 shipping services saying we dont care.

My latest shipping story, package to me from the midwest, 46 days. 40 of which were sitting at the regional hub near me. Just pathetic.

A package sent from BBCE to me was in Wichita yesterday, which means I should have gotten it today.
Instead they sent it northward bound to St. Paul Minnesota.

I prefer USPS to any other delivery service. I have never had an issue with not receiving a package. If I miss a delivery, I can return home from work, and pick it up at my post office down the road. Quite honestly, this discussion is completely inappropriate. It has nothing to do with our hobby, and I am surprised that it is allowed to continue. That being said, I believe in freedom of speech. I also believe in the right of USPS workers to strike for a month against spoiled collectors with nothing but cul-de-sac problems in their lives. “I have spoken.”
