I'm going with fake. One thing I read about his autos is that "Mantle" typically starts on the same level that the "Mickey" finishes. Of course, it could be different on a ball, but it looks to me like the "M" in "Mantle" loops down too far. Kinda resembles some "Banana Mantles" too...https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/most-common-mantle-forgeries-and-how-to-avoid. But this is why authenticators' jobs are so hard - such subtle differences swing it in either direction, and I'm no Mantle expert.

    SPOILER ALERT
Also spotted this article, which has a picture of what you bought (sorry if I'm spoiling everyone else's fun!): https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/ebay-seller-609mickey7-sells-forged-signed-mickey-mantle-1994-wor. Very odd that the pics in the listing are the exact pics from that article from a year ago. Who knows, though - maybe this guy's wrong.

Wow thanks guess this will be a other one added to the fakes. Man them people in the Comments are mean.

I'm going with "highly unlikely" because I believe (not 100% certain) that Mickey Mantle was under exclusive contract with Upper Deck Authenticated starting in 1993 (until he passed). Since that is a 1994 World Series Baseball...

Yeah, sorry about the bad news. I'm still blown away that the seller used the same pictures... almost like he doesn't have the item available to him? I wonder what you'll receive, but if you get what he pictured then it seems like an easy return (seller takes returns within 14 days, but at your cost to ship). If you cancel the purchase quickly enough, maybe you'll catch him before he ships and save yourself some $s.

    Psa said it was fake.

Its your money but do not buy that ball. Three things really quickly that are wrong.

The Ms are incredibly shaky. Mick’s Ms flow smoothly. After all, its his signature. Forgers go slow because theyre trying to get it right.

The Ms are also in the form of bananas, also known as a Banana Mantle.

The N in Mantle is in the shape of a U. This is known as a Mickey Mautle forgery.

Finally, I know of several guys who are constantly, constantly scouring ebay looking for Mantle balls to flip. Theres a reason this ball is so low. Authentic Mantle balls dont sneak past flippers on ebay. When it comes to Mantle balls, if its too good to be true, its probably fake.

One other thing: the C in Mickey looks like an L. This is called a Milkey Mantle.

There are so many red flags here. This is what you would call a Banana M Milkey Mautle ball.

Hey thanks for the info and taken the time out to write this. I canceled the order and he relisted back on ebay.

Don't know why I bothered, but I reported the listing. It's almost worth buying it if the price was low enough just to destroy it, but I'm sure it's one of dozens out there...

There's a lot I don't know in the hobby, particularly when it comes to PSA cards. But I tend to spot HOF forgeries from the guys who hit the show circuit in the 80s to present pretty well.

Can't believe he relisted it. Did you tell him why you cancelled the order? (the PSA Quick Opinion, this thread, etc...)?

Could some one help explain to me about the "Banana Mantles"? When I look at PSA/DNA certified balls, the M's look like bananas, too. I don't understand the difference. Thanks.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

I know a few guys who may have one. Willie Mays inscribed balls are not cheap. Also, stay away from anything that has the Say Hey hologram. Those are most likely fake.

What about all these Barry Bonds hologram items that have been on EBAY for quite some time. Are they also fakes?

The old ones are, the newer ones are not. Check Barrys website. The current ones in his store are the new ones. The older ones I would personally stay away from.

I know what the new ones look like because I recently purchased a signed jersey from his website. But how would you know if his old holograms are real or fake?
