Does the coin pictured appear to have original surfaces, or has it been cleaned?
Any other observations or information regarding this coin?

My impression is that it is an original problem free coin that I would be happy to have in my collection, but perhaps some people with more experience should also weigh in.
It looks like there might be rim bumps on the obverse from 5:00-6:30?

Hard to tell if it's been cleaned from your pics. Tilt and rotate your coin under a halogen or incandescent lamp to check for hairline scratches which would indicate that it has been cleaned..

The coin is the variety BB-105, a rather common variety. Some of the dies for the Bust Dollars have die cuds that could explain what looks like rim bumps. I checked the database on HA.com for this variety, and NONE of them showed any traces of die cuds. On that basis, I agree, those are rim bumps that worn down with circulation.
Do these rim bumps preclude this coin from straight grading?

I can't tell if its been cleaned or not ... but I like it!
They should even if they don't. They are damage, even if very old.
This coin has definitely been around the block a couple of times, but for a budget conscious collector it could be the right piece. I agree the rim damage would likely prevent a straight grade... tough to tell if it has been cleaned. The dark spots on the reverse are a little distracting, but for an 18th C type piece... I'd consider it if it was priced accordingly.

I just examined the coin. The bumps appear to be on the obverse only. From what I can see, no rim ding is visible. Kinda looks like a die break or something.
Also, thank you for identifying the variety (BB-105).
I appreciate everybody's input and comments.
That Bust dollar moved through the economy of our New Nation. Cheers.

Looks good at that grade level, mostly originalish looking.
Just looking at the static images provided, it appears to be a candidate for a coin that has never been cleaned. I like it.

Every US coin with a date that begins with "17" is going to have considerable collector demand even if imperfect and in a low circulated grade.
Nice!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
The rim bumps are forgivable and the overall appeal is refreshing and honest. Neat coin!
Probably been cleaned in about 1850!
