I have a question about a 1979 U.S. 5 cent Jefferson's mint mark.

Trying to locate another and I found one but...
Are the mint marks where the star always is placed, between LIBERTY and 1979 ?
This is just strange to me.
In hand , on a whole, the coin looks like crap. BUT ?

    No. The mm is always to the right of the date starting in 1968. In addition, the P mm for Philadelphia wasn't used on nickels until 1980. Your coin looks like it's just beaten up,

    Researching with what I have on hand, I found this.
    Now I'm on alert about these 79's.
    Should I be ?

    No.

    The worn dies can cause the star to look like a dot. Add the circulation wear and tear, hits etc, and it's nothing special.
