Hey Landon....

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭

You know what might be cool? You start a ...SINGLE thread... about your ongoing progress in coins.
I'd say a LOT of people here want to see you succeed in finding your numismatic path.

You could make it like the "Hansen Watch" thread that tracks your progress.
https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/997819/hansen-watch/p1
That one is running 78 pages and has continued interest. Sure, you're not a Hansen but you're something we all were at one time.

A newbie to coins.

As you run into hurdles or think of a new question or concern, you could add it to that thread and find that many people have run into the same thing either now or in the past.

And they'd be watching your progress in real time instead of scattered posts as you think of them. I think you'd get more response from people who have been in the same place you are.

You could begin with what you've learned so far. Maybe the advice that has helped you the most. A new direction that someone posted as a suggestion for you.

The subjects would be endless.

And easy for you or other interested collectors to find and participate in.

Soooo..... there's an idea for you to think about. :)

Good idea. Only problem is.......I think that I would be banned IMMEDIATELY if I started multiple inane discussions.........and it would be justified.............I'm SERIOUS.

This poses a wonderful and natural case study into the creation and fostering of a sense of entitlement.

It's also a case study in who already has a sense of entitlement

I think everyone is being played.

That's why I just ignore threads/posts that hold no interest for me.

The most hilarious post I have seen from you. No offense, but you get involved in everything. Usually playing the devil's advocate and taking a contrarian approach to whatever point someone is trying to make.

    That's actually not true.

There are a lot of things that interest me. But I do, in fact, ignore threads that don't. And I don't yell at the people that start them. That includes this current issue and the parking lot find threads.

There is one particular poster whose threads hold no interest for me and i largely ignore them. Many of you know of whom I'm speaking. I once even suggested to him that he start a single thread rather than multiple threads on the same coin. I mentioned it once and have not bothered again.

Please tell me you also see the irony with your response.

    Hahaha.
Reminds me of a conversation I had with my daughter the other day:

"Kid, why do you always argue with me?"

"I dont argue with you, Dad."

    "Yes you do..."

    "No I dont!"

"See baby? You even argue with me about arguing with me!"

There's no irony. I didn't say I don't argue...in this case defend myself. I said I ignore posts that couldn't interest me rather than attack the poster. Obviously threads about ME interest me.

That's also proof that you always argue with her. Depends on which side of the fence you're on.

In this case, you commented on my behavior. I did not comment on yours.

A shield nickel will not begin to block all the BS in this thread. Better get a couple rolls.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Landon, you came to a forum with grumpy old men that find humor in poking fun at each other and causing trouble. You need to weigh the good with the bad here. They also are not kind to newbies on their forum. I was picked on too when I joined. Still am... They think every new person is an alt who's trolling them.

Anyway, you need to determine the posters you can trust and rely upon and try not to take the others personally. I have several that I just ignore. A couple already posted in this thread...

I posted a retraction and apology in another thread for not giving Landon the benefit of the doubt. That said, it's not reasonable to ask everyone here to modify their behavior because a 12-year-old suddenly appears on the board. It is incumbent on newcomers to learn the etiquette of the forum. If they are respectful of prevailing norms, that respect will be returned in their direction.

My advice to Landon: Slow down. Don't flood the forum with new threads. Also, try to avoid posting within threads unless you really have something to say. Do searches on topics of interest. Many of your questions have probably been answered already in past threads. This isn't youtube where getting followers and clicks is the name of the game. It's a forum where serious coin collectors exchange information. Don't make yourself a distraction to that process, and you'll have a good experience being a member here. Cheers.
