GRADING: Beckett to PSA

Does anyone know of an instance where a BGS 9.5 gem didn’t cross over to a PSA 10 gem?

I have a few cards in BGS 9.5 I’d like to cross over to PSA for a 10.

Thank you!

there are plenty of BGS 9.5's that dont cross. Ive personally had a bunch not cross over. But in turn, I've had some that I felt wouldn't but worth a chance and ended up crossing successfully (one no subs 9.5 and a 9.5 with a 9 corner sub grade.)

you can send them all and see, thats the only way to know. I can only imagine its tough for PSA to determine surface grade in BGS sleeves, especially given that their sleeves often have defects. also with BGS crossovers, watch out for N6 minsizereq. seems like BGS happily grades slightly undersized cards but PSA has become very strict on it lately.

I also agree that there are issues with BGS sleeves inside their own holders that may inhibit a PSA crossover.....for sure. Often times I cannot tell if the card surface is compromised in a BGS slab or if it's a scuffed, sloppy sleeve within the slab. PSA will not remove the card to take a better look obviously... However, I would add that I have a few collecting colleagues who play the crossover arbitrage to their advantage by buying PSA 10's and crossing them into BGS PRISTINE 10 holders as we all know the sometimes staggering premium realized for that extra 10 ..... (3x10 1x9.5)

Here is an example of how the inner sleeve on a BGS card gets all messed up and makes it hard for PSA to determine if they are on card or sleeve scuffs. for the record, the surface of this card is PERFECT.

@dictoresno..... how does BGS even release this card back to the collector?? Imagine the sales lost with that look....its about as outrageous a byproduct as one could expect given the piece of art behind it that thrives on appearance.

I agree that it is a crapshoot. I've tried several times but I always crack the card out first. I am afraid that sending a card in from a competitor may bias a grader. Call me paranoid. :) I've had a couple of PSA 10s come back but mostly 9s (and one 8! :( ). Good luck with it if you try.

I think this is the best way to do it, unless you are willing to accept a (much) lower grade. Reason being, in order to cross at grade PSA would have to be darn sure that there is nothing wrong with the card. There is no way to put the card back in the BGS (or whatever) holder if there is something missed.

Its pretty much a waste of time and money sending cards in the holder. Slim chance they get crossed over.

Neither of these crossed to PSA 10 recently, though I'd had perfect success on limited results w/no subs less than 9.5 and including at least one 10 in the past.

This one crossed to a 9, as expected ...

This BGS 10 couldn't even get in a PSA 9 holder...that was my minimum grade. So it still resides in its BGS holder for now...

no idea, but ive seen alot of their plastic sleeves have this strange pattern. some only a few of these little rectangles, others have alot. this is the main reason I prefer PSA slabs. and they are almost invisible under normal circumstances. you can only see them when back or side lighting like this really.
