Canadian Mail

I was interested in purchasing a coin from a Canadian dealer, but was put off by his notation that except for the express mail option, at $33, I was accepting mailing at my own risk, even if I chose Priority Mail (I gather, then, that Canadian Priority Mail does not come with the automatic $50 coverage). I would like the coin, but the dealer's express warning deters me.

CanadaPost expedited service to US comes with $100 default insurance and can be increased up to $1000 for an additional fee. For a bubble mailer with a single coin inside to most places in US is around $25 CDN for me. Express is one service up from that.

Canadapost will only pay out an insurance claim of up to $600 on collectible coins. Paying for insurance beyond that amount is throwing money into a pit. I believe Canadapost's cost for insurance non-domestic package is $2.25 CDN/$100 in coverage.
Pokerman is, as usual, mostly correct. There is an option as expedited mail at a higher cost and insurance is possible up to $1000, plus insurance cost of $20 for the 1K plus shipping cost.
Canada post is so far behind the times that I wonder if it is cheaper (peace of mind) to ship Fedex, even within Canada. (have no idea if Fedex does provide insurance)
Also, insurance companies can use one way out (the small print) that Canadian currency is also still very much legal tender! and as such mostly none-insurable.
I have shipped many items to the US (and received) and only once in about 50 years did one not make it... until it arrived 7 months later.
I am also not aware of a priority mail to the USA from Canada, as it is from the US to Canada.

If you pay the dealer via Paypal, there may be a PP insurance possibility.... might be worth it to check it out.
Thanks for the input. Meanwhile, I had been searching ebay for similar items and did find them. It just is that I prefer established dealers to eBay. Anyway, I am going to post my new field of inquiry, which may lead to an established interest.
