Grades popped on Platinum membership sub

This was a mixed bag. I did worse than I thought on some, got exactly what I thought on others, and even did better on a couple. The most exciting for me are the Concepcion and the Garvey. Those are going to fit nicely into my Players Master Sets.

I really thought that the Bench and Rose Venezuelans were nicer than this, but not much nicer. I thought the Bench would go 5 and the Rose 3. Still, I'm fairly happy, as these are very tough issues to get in ANY grade.

PSA 3 1977 Venezuelan League Stickers 138 Dave Concepcion

Congrats on the sub. Those vennies are tough when it comes to grading. A PSA 4 on Bench is not too shabby. Look forward to seeing these when you get them back. BTW that Garvey disc is outstanding.

    Nice!!
I don't think I've ever received higher than a PSA 3 on the 77's I've subbed. Post scans when you get em' back.

Be sure to provide pic of FBI disc here once you receive it! Incredible high grade on such a scarce issue.

Here's the 1982 FBI Foods Discs Steve Garvey card. The holder arrived pretty scuffed up, but it's really the card that counts, right?

And the other item I'll be keeping...

  • stevegarveyfanstevegarveyfan Posts: 579 ✭✭✭✭✭

And here are the rest from that sub.

A few of these will be sent in for review, because I feel that they might be undergraded. However, in the interest of transparency, I will not be resubbing the ones I felt were overgraded. :)

Both those Blylevens look undergraded to me. Possibly the 2nd one more so than the first. Great cards!

The 77 OPC Rose is sweet!

Some nice ones! I'll bet those Blyleven's look superb in hand!

The top one looks better than the bottom one.

Centered a little better, ugly spot on the back.

I have found that 71's edges can look worse from the reflection of the scanner.

That FBI foods looks great slabbed. Some tough grades from the looks of it. That Blyleven and OPC Rose could easily be a .5 to a full grade higher.

Sorry bro, I think you got screwed. Those Blylevens look like 8's to me. Hell the 65 Rose looks as nice as plenty of 8's I've seen.

The grades overall seem to be on the conservative side. Some beautiful cards there.
I still get frustrated at how they grade the 77 Ven's. Some years ago that Bench would have had an MC.

The Venezuelan Rose would have had an OC qualifier had I not requested no qualifier on that card. Heck, now it's got me thinking what numerical grade it might have achieved if I had allowed qualifiers!

I didn't think MC was a qualifier you had the option to omit. I thought if it was MC you got the qualifier no matter what you checked. I could be wrong, I don't really submit much anymore.

Here's a link to my "Showcase" of 77 Ven's. The MC is used sometimes and not other times.

Man, those are sweet. I think I'm falling in love with the 1977 Venezuelan issue. But as you stated, sometimes it's a bit of a mystery why the MC qualifier isn't used.
