Israel, 1 Lira 1963, KM# 37, 'large animals' varieties.

It has been a few years ago that I did my last post, I had a busy time, but here I am again.
There appear to be two types of the Israel 1 Lira coin 1963, KM# 37, large animals.
I did not discover this myself but came to know this in a topic on Facebook a few years ago. I was the topic starter asking for good pictures about the differences between large en small animals: https://www.facebook.com/groups/IsraelCoins/permalink/10156990148740151/
Below you will find a picture that shows the differences. The pictures are of my own coins, with the exception of the 'filled R' detail. The naming of 'Type 1' and 'Type 2' in the picture is mine. Below there is some more explanation.

Back then, after learning about the 2 types, I checked my 3 coins and I had both of them, two of 'Type 1' and one of 'Type 2', no 'filled R'. A few weeks ago I purchased another 'Type 2' coin.
Also, a few weeks ago, Ole Sjoelund, a forum member on Numista.com, posted his 1963 1 Lira coin in this topic and that is the 'Type 2' with 'filled R' sub-type: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic88794.html Therefore I checked the Haffner catalog on this.

Krause-Mishler lists 2 types of the 1963 1 Lira coins from Israel:
KM# 37, 'Large animals'.
KM# 37, 'Small animals'.

Haffner (1979, page 61) lists 3 types of the 1963 1 Lira coins:
No. A100-1, Large Animals
No. A100-1a, Small Animals
No. A100-1b, "Flat Numeral '1' " ==>> Note: this coin has a 'filled R' in 'ISRAEL'. <<==

Here is a picture of the page from Haffner's 1979 catalog:

Haffner lists a 1963 1 Lira with 'filled R' as A100-1.B in the 1979 catalog, but I do not know if the large or the small animals variety is meant there. The coin from Ole Sjoelund is a large animals and has a Flat Numeral '1' and a 'filled R', so I assume this the A100-1b.
Another difference, according to Haffner, between the A100-1b and the other two coins should be the number of scoops on the reeded edge: 120 on A100-1b and 109 on A100-1 and A100-1a. I checked the scoops on my coins (A100-1) and all of them have 120 scoops. Haffner is wrong on this, however, I don't know about the A100-1a 'small animals', because I don't have one.
About the 'Flat Numeral 1': all my 4 coins, 'Type 1' and 'Type 2' seems to have a 'Shaved Numeral 1'. The coin of Ole Sjoelund has a 'Flat Numeral '1' '.
The A100-1b should also be thinner than the other two. As I think the coin from Loe Sjoelund is a 'Type 2', my 'Type 2' coins should be thinner than my 'Type 1' coins. I did measure the thickness of the rims of my coins and I found a slight difference, see the list:

My reference; edge; rim thickness;

b-t1, a 'Type 1'; 120 scoops; 2,15 mm
c-t1, a 'Type 1'; 120 scoops; 2,10 mm

a-t2, a 'Type 2' ; 120 scoops; 2,10 mm
d-t2, a 'Type 2'; 120 scoops ; 2,05 mm

This leads me to this conclusion in the listing of the 1963 1 Lira from Israel as far as I know:

Haffner; KM#; coin;

A100-1; 37; Large animals, 120 scoops, shaved numeral '1', 'Type 1'.
;; Large animals, 120 scoops, shaved numeral '1', 'Type 2'.
A100-1a; 37 ; Small animals. (Is there a 'Type 1' and/or 'Type 2'?)
A100-1b ; ; Large animals, 120 scoop, "Flat Numeral '1' ", 'filled R', 'Type 2'. (Is there a 'Type 1'?)

When I look at the different auction sites, it appears to me that the majority of the offered coins are of the 'Type 1'. However, I have no idea if this means that the two types are minted in two different places (e.g. Tel-Aviv 4,180,000 coins or Bern 32,000 coins, Haffner 1979, page 59).

Any comments are welcome!

So, you have to browse through your 1 Lira 1963 collection :)

BTW, if you happen to have good pictures of the 'small/large' varieties, both 1/2 and 1 Lira, please let me know.

Tom.

    Okay, I have to admit when I was looking at the images of the coin I could not find any animals until I browsed into the design of the menorah. Mazel Tov!
