1867 Hong Kong Dollar - Repunched "8"?

Hi all! I recently acquired this 1867 Hong Kong Dollar and although it is has been roughly cleaned, it is quite a scarce coin. I noticed the "8" in the date looked a little funny. I can't tell if it's a repunched "8" or machine doubling, etc. I searched online and couldn't find any other examples. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A classic rarity, especially in original mint state. There's definitely something going on with the 8. What's the difference between re-punched and machine doubling? Haven't seen many of these, so no idea if it's unique. Sorry.
Looks like an rpd to me based on the separation of the number eight secondary image to the left. But what do I know. Peace Roy

Thanks for your thoughts. I find it pretty interesting that it's only evident on the "8' and not on the surrounding numbers.
