I generally avoid problem coins but I'll never say never. Show me the coin and quote me a price. If you offered me a PCGS slabbed 1794 silver dollar with a details grade due to a light cleaning for $500 I'd certainly buy it.

I have and will again if it’s something I need. Bought this Store Card some years ago and was very glad to get it. The Fuld guide lists this brass variety as a Rarity 10, meaning Unique. In copper it is a rather common

I have one details coin, an 1815 over 14 CBH (I think it is, the tough one) that is a nice XF except for a small lightly rubbed spot under the eagles wing. Since I saved about $1500 buying this coin and the obverse is perfect, I'm happy with it. But that is the only details coin I own out of far too many!

Yes, I would buy them.
There are many cleaned coins that have a 'market acceptable' appearance.

Probably the 1815/12
I won't do it.
I buy the highest straight grade I can afford.
Problem coins will always be problem coins and, many times, they are overpriced, when buying, and hard to sell on down the road.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
