1897 Cuba Peso Souvenir Silver

This is an interesting coin that I picked up the other day. I have never seen one and it is a very low mintage. I was surprised to see that it can't be listed on Ebay due to their guidelines.

    I have a few of the 1965 restrikes/reissues.

The 1897 was well before the embargo so it is ridiculous that they won't allow listings, but they don't want to be in the business of having to figure out what is what.

The 1965 restrikes/reissues are much rarer with mintage of around 5000 for all 3 types. They were both 1897 & 1965 minted in the U.S.A. so do not fall under the Cuba embargo rules. All can be listed on ebay as Souvenir Peso just do not mention Cuba.

1897's Cuba Souvenirs there are a lot of fake ones out there so please be careful when you buy them so you do not get burnt.

Was this struck in 1897? Krause only shows a 1898 (KN# A8). Mintage 1,000. Even if this was minted in the US, it should still be listed under Cuba in Krause, right? Could it be considered a medal instead of a coin? Cuba was still technically under Spanish rule in 1897 I presume.

Yes, you can find it on the NGC website. You can also find it here now on the BST.
