High Polish 1792 8 Reales With Chopmarks - Real Or Fake?
Hi again everyone,
So today I just received an 8 reales I purchased. I knew that the coin was polished - but I didn't know just how polished. It's so perfectly shiny that - despite not having any other problems I can see - it makes me nervous.
Which is why I submit it to your piercing gaze for consideration.
Here are the deets:
Weight - 26.383g - significantly short, but perhaps consistent with wear followed by such an intense polish?
Diameter - Four measurements: 39.3/39.2/38.59/39.77
Not magnetic
Sorry, no specific gravity test - haven't had time to put the test together just yet.
It is so shiny that it was hard to photograph. See the shininess below as well as photos of the edges at each 90 degree point along the rim.
Any insight is welcome, no matter how good or bad the news.
Thanks!

No, that weight is still too low
Low enough to seal the deal on authenticity? Does it have other tells I'm not seeing?
Even if authentic, the polishing brings the value close to melt. Just get it silver tested either at your local pawn shop or by doing SG. There are a lot of red flags, but all can be attributed to heavy polishing. Weight is a concern, since at 26.4 grams you would barely have any design remaining visible.
