Went to my first "card show" Saturday
Sort of. Saturday morning my wife said that she was surprised that I was not going to the card show that was posted on telephone poles all over town. I never noticed them so I found out where and headed out. Two dealers who set up at our local show live in our town and set up their cards in the driveway tag sale style. It was pretty nice to be able to look through large amounts of cards for a while again. I was trying to finish up some cheap sets and most dealers don't bring their .25 cent cards to the shows because they take up lots of room and are a pain to lug around or so they tell me. Usually when I ask they tell me they have thousands at their house. Well, I was at their house and they had the cards I needed. it was also fun to see all these ladies walk up thinking it was a tag sale.

Back in the 80's, a couple times a month, my friend and I would advertise in the "garage sale" section of the classified ads in the newspaper "Baseball cards - buy, sell, trade. Singles, sets, packs, supplies". It was a small town so people knew us and what to expect. We'd set up several 8 foot tables like a card show. Besides cards, we'd always have a cooler full of soda and bulk candy and snacks for sale that we'd stock up on at Sam's Wholesale Club. If we had enough help, we'd set up a lemonade stand and fire up the grill and sell hotdogs, too. The moms loved us. If you've ever drug kids around on garage sale day, you know they can only take so much until they were hungry, thirsty, or bored. They'd plan their route for the day with us in mind, and whether or not they'd buy any cards, we'd make a killing off of what they'd buy to placate their whiny kids.
Back in the early 90s, our small town had a vacant storefront that my brother, best friend and I rented 2 days a week for a summer. We set it up like a little card shop. Our parents footed the very small rental fee and let us keep all of our sales for "profits". Sold a few cards and had a lot of fun.
