According to Darren Rovell, the winning bidder is some 28-year old named Leore Avidar, the co-founder of a company called Lob.com. According to the story linked below, Avidar said the purchase is part of a strategy to “bring something big to the collectibles and alternative asset business in the coming months.”

I’d expect to see 22 more on the market shortly.

I figured it was 23/23 or maybe 6/23 that drove the price. Nope. I would rather have a Topps chrome refractor Rookie and a 1.7 million dollars.

I doubt the other 22 will sell for anywhere near that.

A PSA 10 with both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on it sold for about $125k Almost 2 years ago...

Must have been thinking raw. But even raw is selling for less now so not sure.

Everything about the 1980 Topps Bird/Erving/Johnson card has been on the rise since about early April (on eBay is where I'm watching them sell). From Raw to graded 5/6/7/8/9's. The best examples in each grade have about tripled since early April. Raw cards on eBay are difficult to gauge as there are so many factors when buying a raw card without seeing it in person. And then there's the shady sellers with the reprint cards -- always have to watch out for them...

IMO I would rather have as many 1980 Bird Magic cards I could buy for 1.8 Million vs having the lebron card. I think both of them are better than Lebron. I have Lebron at 9 all-time.

    1) Russell
    2) Chamberlain
    3) Jordan
    4) Kareem
    5) Magic
    6) Larry
    7) Oscar
    8) Kobe
    9) Lebron
    10) West

I think that was the solo cards of each (one of the Bird w/Simka?), not the iconic combo card.

Since the winning bidder seems to live in that tax monster called California, don't forget the sales tax that we can be certain they will be sure to collect!

That pushes the price of the card to over $2M!!!!!

Breaking news!! The 23rd of 23 modern made scarce card sold today for $423. It wasn’t too long ago one lucky buyer paid $1.8 Million.
But don’t fret Lebron fans, Exquisite card manufacturers has just had Lebron scribble 23 more coming to market soon.
Early reports state the card will include a guaranteed Jersey with Covid since Lebron refused to play the 2020 season for lack of fans and a shortage of talc.

You could have every RC on your top 10 list in high grade and have plenty left.
