Mickey mantle card collector

This is my first post, hello fellow collectors! Just listed my Mantle set in the registry. I'm about 77% complete. Interested in hearing from other mantle collectors. image

  • Welcome to the board. What's the name of your set on the registry? I have only three Mantle cards, they are a 1964 Topps #331 A L Bombers PSA 9, 1964 Topps Giants #25 PSA 8 and a 1966 Topps #50 PSA 8. All are NQ examples. Will be selling them on ebay shortly. Ebay ID alohaet. Again welcome and ask any questions you have as the people here are quite knowledgeable.

  • Thanks for the greetings! I wonder if I could get your opinion on a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle card currently on EBay being offered by Heritage sports. The card is grade BGS 8. It looks quite good but was wondering if it would have a chance of grading an 8 by PSA? It is always a risk cross grading. I'm looking to upgrade from a PSA 7 to an 8. Comments?
  • Hi ED! The name of my set is BFGriggs.
  • There is member of the board who is very good when it comes to the 1951 Bowman Set. He posts here frequently his name is David Vargha. His 51 Bowman Set is on the registry and if I needed an opinion on any card in this set I would ask him. If you could post the ebay item # it would be helpful.

  • Ed,

The EBay item # for the '51 Bowman Mantle BGS 8 is 1838766280.

  • I checked out the scan of this card and they have the corners at 7.5. I believe PSA is very strict on corners and that might keep it from getting the 8 you want. Spending that kind of money I would be hesitant trying to do a crossover. Just my opinion. The SMR for an PSA 8 is $18,500 and a PSA 7 is $7,250. Quite a gamble when doing a crossover.

  • Mabye you could find a collector who is not collecting only PSA with a PSA 8 of the same card and trade with him. It's worth a shot.

  • I thought that PSA and BGS were pretty much equal in terms of sale prices but that BVG and PSA were not.

    Hi Dude

Welcome to the club. We seem to share a common interest. I agree with the prior posts....this card is unlikely to get a PSA 8. You would be better off waiting for a Mastro or Superior auction. The way prices have been declining lately, a PSA 8 1951B Mantle will likely be available for less than 18-20K.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
