Would someone mind rinsing / conserving something for me?
I have a few bus tokens from my hometown of Winston-Salem. They’re not valuable by any means, but I’m keen on keeping them. They have different levels of color, and different levels of crud / schmutz on them.
They may be brass / bronze.
If you’re experienced in soaking things in acetone, or whatever removes crapola, would you be up for doing some conservation?
I don’t want them ruined, or shiny and brand new looking—thinking more along the lines of “within the acceptable limits of conservation / preservation”.
They’re only worth perhaps $10.00 total so this is not a money-making opportunity, but I’d gladly pay up to $10 if you include them in your next project. No hurry.
Also, this is a no-risk situation. If they fail...so be it...I’ll buy some more on eBay when the time is right. Also, these things will be mailed for 55 cents. No insurance! They’re not a big deal.
Thanks much for your consideration.

I never clean any coin and wouldn’t start with these. I like the look as they are. Just a bit of advice. Flat the staples on your 2X2 holder to avoid scratching a coin. Good luck with your project
You want to remove the patina and try to have them appear as new? Remember part of the history is in the patina and those have some character as is.
Acetone is generally harmless for coins. You don't need any special expertise to use it. You can easily buy some and do it yourself.

I don’t want them to look new. I just want the dirt, crud to come off, but without harming the token. If that is even possible / acceptable.

I have some of the original Blue Ribbon that I use on copper that I can treat them with.
I’ll do it gratas.
Send me a PM.
Thanks very much! PM sent.

Soak them in OTC H2O2 for 24 hours each side up. Oxidation of organic crud will occur. Lots of tiny bubbles. No rubbing. You can repeat the soak. Will not remove the patina of ages. Peace Roy
