Reholdering question

Have zero experience with reholdering cards. Assuming none of the cases are damaged, does PSA reholder with the same serial number, or do they generate a new one and take the old one out of the pop report? The goal is to have my cards in the new flip and have some displays with consecutive serial numbers, if possible.
If they do go into the new flip with new numbers, does anyone know if there is any reason the serial numbers wouldn't be consecutive?

In my experience, they use the same serial number.
yup, they will always reholder with the existing cert number. thats why you will find very old numbers with new lighthouse holders.
