Biggest "short sell" regret?
Short of having the Crisser on your payroll, nobody really knows how the current market will play out. Having missed out on the big market uptick during the first half of 2016, I planned on being ready for the next surge. For whatever reasons, I lost track of the first couple months of this year and by the time I started paying attention, my Lebron Topps Chrome psa 10 was already at $6000 and climbing. I verified several sales to make sure I wasnt missing something and noticed that many high grade rookies were doubling and tripling or more in price.
I decided to try and sell some cards before they retreated to previous prices. As the NBA season was cancelled, the James card momentarily starting coming down and i pulled the trigger, knowing i only had $900 in the card, and sold it for $5100. Overall, a nice gain, but at this point, I'm not feeling so smart.
Do you have any similar regrets or success stories regarding what you sold or bought so far this year?

A 2011 US175 PSA 10 Trout. Sold it at the first eBay selling promo this year for $1K. Within a couple months, the card was over $3K. Doh!

Everything I sold before the lock down. It was all wrong.
Yes, I blew an opportunity last month on buying a 1950 Kiddy's Favourites Joe Louis card. Makes me wanna puke just thinking about it. I'm sorry that I let you down Joe. It won't happen again buddy.
Afternoon,
1930's Detective Comics #39, third appearance of Batman. Sold it to another Dealer for $1500 cash and 10K in trade, about cleaned out his inventory. Comic now would be in the Several Hundred of Thousand's of $$, probably around $500K now!
YeeHah!
Neil
Black letters or Blue letters? BTW, the Kiddy's set was issued in the latter part of 1947. PSA has the date wrong. A large portion of the cards in that set have text that prove the issuance date to clearly be 1947.
The name in blue, which stings even more. Nice copy also, as you see. Oh, the agony!
And as the Lebron James cards started to slow down due to the NBA Season put on hold, MJ cards started to go nuts where PSA 10's shot up like crazy (and then 8's and 9's followed along). This seemed to be from the "Last Dance" documentary on MJ. Then in the middle of that, the 1980 Topps Bird/Erving/Johnson cards started to take off also. My regrets are I sold some of my high grade MJ's and Bird/Johnson cards just before they took off. And just when you thought it was over, the Lebron James lately have started to take off again. Houston, we have ignition...
So much basketball - Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Lebron rookies 🤮
Lots of PSA 8's back in the day that are worth a small fortune now. One more recent I had a beautiful perfectly centerd PSA 5 1953 Mantle I sold for $1500.
sold an SP Brady rookie PSA 10 for 3K...sold a Namath RC PSA 8 for 6,600......ouch!!!! (bought the Brady for $300, Namath for $1200 many years ago)
Picked up 16 Fleer 1990 Basketball Wax boxes from a local find for $5 a box last year and quickly sold them for $18 each. I thought I was smart lol

Pretty much anything vintage unopened over the past 5 years is worth more now than ever. However, selling is often a necessary part of acquiring new product so I can't complain.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
let me think about this--I've got quite a few--all unopened of course! But TImmy you are correct all went to the purchase pf new stuff--and I'm still pissed I sold them!!! hahahahahahahahaha
Not a short sell but rather a fail to purchase. Had a chance at the Philly Show this year to buy a 2000 Bowman Chrome Brady PSA 10 for $2100. I offered $1900 cause at the time they were going like $1700-1900. Turned down his counter of $2100. I think about that one a lot.

Not a short sell but general sell, any cards & comics I sold before heading off to ASU in 1988.
2012 Panini Prizm Mike Trout PSA 10. I had about 15 of these. Sold them between $15 and $30, now they are around $500 and up. For a time they were around $1k. I even had one with a cracked case, the card was unaffected. I threw it out because it was a hassle to send back for a re-holder and the card was only $15 at the time.
Sold a raw 1975 Topps #660 Hank Aaron for $10 to a dealer when I was a kid and didn't know anything about grading. The card had those rough edges, so I figured the card was beat. Now I know rough edges are good. I think the show must have been a National, because he graded it on the spot with PSA. I saw the card the next day with PSA 9. Its a few thousand dollar card now.
I gotta stop, this hurts
We've all been there at one time or another.
Not a sell but I passed on a 1933 Lou Gehrig #140 PSA 3 for $1,400 at the Boston show about 6 years ago. It is now a $3,000 card.
All these stories are the reason why I am hesitant to sell my 03 Topps Chrome lebron psa 10 right now, even though prices keep going up. It’s hard to figure out when to sell without leaving to much on the table.

No regrets ever from taking a profit or just cleaning out stuff I have no desire to store any longer, regardless of how much more I could have gotten at a later date. I honestly don't even pay attention to pricing of most things I've moved on from. If I'm worried about regrets, I either don't put it up for sale or don't accept an offer below the threshold to erase the possibility. I'm just glad I got mine and happy for whoever purchased to get theirs also.
I've sold so many cards over the years that I could have sold for much more later...........which sucks. However, I've found that NOT selling a card and then watching it's value drop sucks.......much worse.
