What will this end up going for in this market?
Description from the PWCC website:
A beautifully framed copy, far superior to what we typically see at the mid-grade levels, and also boasting bright and strong coloring throughout. This card really 'pops' through the holder. A small area of color disruption to the right of Mantle's bust and very light corner wear are all that appear to keep this card at the EXMT level. If you're in the market for a world class blue chip, look no further. The offered EXMT example is easily in the top half of those we've seen and would be hard to improve upon.

I am amazed at how much this card has exploded!!! This is a PSA 6!!!!
If I had the money, and that's a big if, the surface issue would be too much of a detraction for me.

I would pretend it was a little cloud! ;-)

Cloud or puddle all we get is a color disruption.

If I'm going to buy a 52' Topps Mantle, it better have a beard, or at least a mustache.
Just sayin'... Picture settings obviously are different, but centering and color over corners all day for my money.
On the cards pictured above it’s not the picture settings causing such a drastic difference in appearance. There are two variations of the card and they come with two very different looking picture color/quality appearances.
The 52 Mantle, Robinson and Thomson were double printed. While I will likely never afford any of these, I think the ‘52 Mathews should be worth more than the Mantle. There are half as many, it is his rookie card instead of a second year card and it is the last card in the set so more were damaged with rubber bands. There are 44 Mantles PSA 8 and higher compared to just 16 Mathews.
As for the 4.5 vs the 6 I would take the 4.5 because that spot to the right of his ear would bug me too much. However if I could afford a 6, I would wait for a 6 without the spot rather than take the corners on the 4.5.

I agree with some comments already made about this.
Yes, of course it's still a beautiful card. But for that kind of money, i'll take a card with no color disruption, thank you.
I have always thought the Mathews card was undervalued for the reasons you bring up.
After all he was the second best 3rd base man of all time ;-)
Alright, I have $2.06 in eBay bucks. Who else can chip in theirs towards this? We will all own our fair %.

Not horrible. The card market is strong. PSA 6's don't come across for sale too often and you have to jump on one if you can live with that particular copy or you may have to wait a long time till another comes up (and win the bid). Imagine if it didn't have the surface issue next to his ear.
i may be the only one here who does not have a problem with spot. it is a great looking card. i also would be happy with the 4.5.
