Which Do You Prefer --- Coating or No Coating....

..with your PSA 10 Topps Finest cards? And why? Would be curious to hear what folks say. I heard someone say he thought it was silly to grade a card with the coating still on. I admit it does like shinier with the coating removed...

I'm for removing the coating as well. One of my favorite sets is the 97-98 Finest basketball and the cards look so much better without the peel imo.

No coating. Makes the card look so much better. The wording definitely takes away from the eye appeal.

agree with you guys...but I think the cards with the coating sell for more, if I am not mistaken...guess the financial portion of the equation may be the only one that pushes one towards leaving the coating on...but I have seen a lot of coatings with a lot of scratching, so removing the coating is obvious in those situations

I like the coating! Thought it was more difficult to get Gem Mint with coating then without.

There is no market premium associated with the cards graded with "coating". They sell for the same either way. This is from someone whose collection is heavily based in all the 90's Finest Baseball Refractor sets. I have the 93, 94 and 95 sets PSA graded (w/o peel). I certainly prefer no peel or coating on my graded cards. Over time inevitably there will be fewer cards with coatings/peels intact. Though I can't imagine a future where there aren't enough of the "coated" cards to satisfy, let's say player collector completists who want both versions, to the point where a distinct premium would be paid for the "coated" version across the board.

Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

I lean toward with coating, since that is how the card came.

Thank you for that info..I thought I had seen manny cases where the w/coatings were selling for more, but I may have just been seeing a few anomalies

I’ve had coated and non coated and the coated have sold for more. Maybe they were anomalies, but coated sold for more.

I don't have a ton of cards with a coating, but I have left it on. There is one simple reason. If I decide I don't like it later or want to sell it to someone who doesn't like it I can easily remove it. However, once it is removed you can't put it back on.

Have always left the coating on for future sales to the purest's among us.
