Scene from Sports Night:
Natalie Hurley : So Thespis is the Roman god of theatre?
Jeremy Goodwin : That's exactly right. Except he's not Roman and he's not a god.
Natalie Hurley : What is he?
Jeremy Goodwin : He's Greek and he's a ghost.
Dana Whitaker : Who's Artemis?
Jeremy Goodwin : Artemis?
Dana Whitaker : Yes.
Jeremy Goodwin : Artemis is goddess of the moon, the hunt, chastity and fertility.
Dana Whitaker : Your boy knows his mythology.
Natalie Hurley : Give him another one.
Kim : Athena.
Jeremy Goodwin : Goddess of wisdom, the arts, and war.
Casey McCall : Mercury.
Jeremy Goodwin : God of commerce, wrestling, gymnastics, thieving, good luck, sleep, wealth, and dreams.
Casey McCall : Wow.
Natalie Hurley : There's a god of thieving?
Casey McCall : There's a god of gymnastics?
Jeremy Goodwin : Yes, indeed.

I'm all over social media in various venues and I've got to say this is about the stupidest post I've seen today. Yeah, this day is barely half over, but I think it's going to be a hard climb up Mt. Doofus to take the crown away.

Mt. Doofus 😂 so well stated.
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
Reading this thread and some of the posts contained therein is .......................... unsettling.
The idea of a social credit scoring system being implemented and part of daily life conjures up thoughts of "Group Think", a further eroding of privacy and a further eroding of individual Liberty.
Not surprisingly some people are not troubled by this; and indeed welcome it.
No doubt that as the decades pass and persons born prior to 2000 pass away, the population of planet earth will know nothing other than being "plugged in". Technology will advance to the point where individuals will be physically linked (via embedded chips or ports) to a human "collective" comprised of technological devices and individual persons. A society where humans exist as part of a "Group Mind" will be present.
This has been written about in science fiction; and in fantasy for decades if not longer (for example Arthur C. Clarke and David Eddings).

Satire is dead. Tear down its statue.
Sense of humor? This is more like slapping at biting black flies at a picnic, all in futility, followed by falling face first into a fire ant mound. Guffaws galore!
If this thread is what passes for "satire" these days, then yes, it's dead.
If you don't understand abcde's sense of humor, it is more a condemnation of your school system.
I'm not sure he has ever posted a serious statement on this forum.
OK, thanks. I'll let UC Berkeley know that you disapprove of them. They'll likely consider that another feather in their cap.
Just because something isn't serious doesn't mean it's funny... or satirical.
I don't find it funny myself. I do, however, recognize its satirical effort. Especially if you know who posted, it is quite obviously tongue-in-cheek.
sat·ire
noun: satire
the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
Based on what I've read on this forum, one's eBay reputation primarily reflects other people's stupidity and vices. OK, I've wasted enough time on this pointless thread... over and out.

Please, less effort and thought on this thread and let's all get back to the "What Color is Your eBay Star?" thread.
That thread (however frivolous) is hardly a target worthy of mockery in the grand scheme of things. If you wanted to express disapproval or be flippant, doing so inside of that thread would have been a better choice than starting this one, IMHO.

People who actually think like this are coming into positions of power all around us.

Mt. Doofus 😂 so well stated.
How about basing it on how many PCGS coins one contributes to CoinFacts?
So you'd have to buy PCGS coins and list them publicly in the Set Registry.
The more people that post, the more coins can appear in CoinFacts!

It actually is a pretty reasonable defense. It WAS a joke. A bad joke is not a crime.
What does it say about all the curmudgeons around here that come out swinging?
Yes.
In this case, the joke was so bad that it was a crime.😄
The fact that the curmudgeons, myself included, didn’t get the joke, says that it failed.

Clearly you don't read abcde regularly. I still can't think of a single serious post he has ever made.
It definitely failed. I think because people decided to yell first and consider the source later...in typical "old curmudgeon" fashion.
Now get off my lawn!
