I have this cent for some time already and can not figure it out.
Maybe someone here can help? It is definitely very unusual. Perhaps a one of a kind?
even QV's face is multi struck...
Thank you for your input here

Looks like an extreme example of machine doubling to me.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Me, too. MD/die bounce is my guess.
Notice how it's very flat and the remnants of the raised areas of the letters are much thinner than normal. That's a characteristic of mechanical doubling
Interesting coin. 1st that I can recall with mechanical doubling on both sides.

I sure wish that I could see it, but my Microsoft and chrome software is so old that it doesn't allow me to see photos on this site. It doesn't even allow me to see the icons, including my own upper right, as well as everyone else's. It always says, when I log in, that the site isn't secure and isn't safe to log in because of the certification. I have the same problem with my Politico news site. I've always liked the 1887's .. they had really nicely offset repunches on the 7 with some dies. I've probably had 200-300 1887's at some time and never seen a n MD on 1 side, let alone both.
Bill, I'll email the images.

Got-em. Thanks Don
If anyone would like to have close up pictures of different sections, please let me know,
or if better, I can post a few more here.??
Is that when your software is from?
I still have this coin and am wondering if a TPG would certify it?
CCCS would probably cert it, but it would be expensive for the varieties and it's mechanical/machine doubling so really not worth it. Try Ebay.. I've seen a few of those, but the real interest in the '87's is the different offsets in the repunched 7's. The last digit was hand-punched into the dies and it may have been hours or days or weeks between the 1st and 3rd whacks. The punch had to be hardened and the planchet softened (annealed) so the 7's are all over the place. Yours is from the die being loose in the keepers so that the die rotated slightly in the microsecond after the punch, creating a "shadow" image that may differ in the amount of offset as you look around the coin. Once the workers retightened the die in the holder, all was good and no more "doubling", but it's MD.
Here's some repunched 7's to see "real" doubling. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=431382
Thank you Syl, I will see what CCCS has to say.
