Question about a SNAD return request

_EagleEyeKid__EagleEyeKid_ Posts: 273 ✭✭✭

Just had a SNAD against me in 15 years. I sold a raw lot of 7 cards. All 7 were the same rookie card. Stated it as nm-mt and showed the front and back scan of all 7 cards that my scanner allowed but not individually. The buyer was upset when he received it saying every single card had one of the following.... either surface scratch, a dimple, rough edges, or a dinged corner. He sends me 5 pictures...… three pictures shows a dimple, one picture showing a possible scratch that I couldn't tell from the glare of the shot, and one showing a slightly bent corner. We went at it back and forth, and I told him what he showed me or complained about falls within a nm-mt range that I stated except for maybe the slight bent corner on one which I don't even remember. The transaction was under $60. I don't accept returns on my listings and I have no money in my PP account.

What will be the outcome?

Edit: Says he would not have purchased if he knew these flaws were on the cards? Am I suppose to start stating every single minute flaw I see on cards, or would nm-mt or nm or whatever cover those?

Unfortunately, Ebay sides with the buyer in many cases like this. One of the many reasons I have stopped selling on Ebay.

ive sold a bunch of lots recently, some large high dollar ones, some only a few cards for under $100. all of my raw card auctions were EXTREMELY detailed and listed all and any flaws I saw. I looked over each one individually and included front and back scans on all, even for the 30+ card lots.

I also erred on the side of caution, calling the ones with some issues EX+ to NM as to not have return issues. like stated above, ebay sides with the buyer, so you're probably gonna have to have him return the cards for a refund.

So if I take my sweet time and not comply, does ebay simply withdraw the money out of checking account or CC to fulfull the refund if I have no money in my PP account?

they will leave your account with a negative balance I believe. ive sold $900 raw lots of 36 cards. detailed scans of each and every card and meticulously looking over each and every one as if I was going to grade it, pulling out any that would not meet the cut and listing every single issue I was able to find, garnered me positive feedback and a happy buyer. I will write paragraphs detailing the exact condition since thats what I look for when buying cards. its better to take the time to be extremely thorough in the beginning than have to deal with an unhappy buyer. all of my raw lots sold and not one return or negative remark regarding my assessment. I also have bombproof shipping, so I know they won't get damaged.

I would check the buyer feedback..... both as received and left for sellers. See if there is a pattern of the buyer leaving negative or neutral feedback and returning cards. E-bay will side with the buyer. But, you can also claim that the buyer did not return the cards in the condition as described and you suspect that he "switched" out your original cards for lesser condition cards. Be diligent and persistent.... it will take a while, but $60 is nothing to e-bay. I had a similar experience a couple years ago but it is a long story.

Unfortunately with ebay it doesn't matter if your description says you don't accept returns. Everyone accepts returns through ebay. 30 days with ebay and all the way out to 180 days with paypal. Don't consider your transaction complete until 6 months out.

The manufacturers only guarantee NM or NMMT. In a sane world, that would be enough, but on ebay they'll probably side with the buyer since the ebay rep is unlikely to know anything about cards.

Luckily, as you said, returns are extremely rare so I wouldn't worry about it going forward. Detailing every flaw will only net you far less per hour in the long run. The buyer is just abusing the system. If buyers want cards that are better than Topps/Panini guarantees for new product, they need to buy the boxes themselves or buy graded. Block and move on.

I just requested Ebay refund my seller account credit balance to my Paypal account. This credit balance was due to my first ever 3 returns after almost 20 years selling on EBay.

When the rep asked why I told him I was not going to sell any longer because of their unfair to sellers return policy and I would be closing my account.

He said he was sorry to hear that and would process the refund. In other words, we don’t care so please go away.

I wouldn’t expect to see a change in the return policy anytime soon.

When I sell raw cards I never state a grade. Big clear scans and disclosure of any flaws = no returns.

Had someone do the same to me. Wanted to haggle on price before purchasing, had 5 pictures of all areas of the card, he gets card, returns it, even though the flaw is clearly seen in the photos. I do the same and list no returns, even though I know they can still do it. My though is, if you want a PSA 9 or 10..;.BUY ONE, do not expect every raw card to be freakin gem mint

IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Some buyers are going to convince themselves they've discovered the key to generational wealth in this one listing of yours, and there's no coming back from that level of disappointment no matter how good your description or quality of pics. Ebay does not take good care of their low volume sellers.
