    Mintage is not as significant as surviving population. Nonetheless, it is a terrific looking example.

    Totally agree, but not easy to ascertain this unless one really studies the market over a long period of time. One would have to be a serious numismatist (like you) to have a good take on surviving populations across different years, denominations, countries, etc. I have a hard time studying this for one period of one country!

    What's not to like with that one? It is probably the nicest example of an already scarce issue.

    Btw, there is a 1951 with even less mintage on stack now for a couple hundreds.

    There's nothing wrong with the coin. It's beautiful, and no doubt one of the best that exists. I just know Dan and his collection well enough to know that it doesn't belong in his collection.

    Look at it this way: A collection is defined just as much by the coins we choose NOT to include as by the coins we DO choose to include.
