Check this out:
The back of the card is not the 1989 Upper Deck. Also, the grading company, Advanced Grading Specialists, is the holder in front view, but the back view has the GEM grading company holder. AGS and GEM are not the same company. It appears to be two different cards. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't touch cards in either holder, but it seems to just be a scan upload error by the seller on the 89UD.
Now I see what you mean. Likely upload error with the images.
I like AGS, but I have reservations when it comes to really valuable cards like this one. So far, the AGS graded cards I have seem to all be graded according to the similar standard at PSA, but they are not very expensive to begin with.
For high dollar cards that one wants to eventually sell, one has to cross-over to PSA to get decent money. An AGS Gem-Mint 10 can easily become a PSA Mint 9, not because AGS has lower grading standards, but that is the nature between a 9/10 grade. Right now, a PSA 9 of this card is about $200, so I would not pay more than that for a AGS 10.

At first I thought someone had "razor split" 2 cards and glued/pressed them together for the ultimate "wrong back". Have heard of this "technique" before.
Bluejayway,
That would be an ultimate frankenstein card.
The scan is blurry, unfortunately, or else I would have at least spent the time to see if this card was even worth floating an offer. I can't tell if its dead center, but it is at least close. I wonder how the condition of the hologram is.
I already sent a message to the seller regarding the error in upload. The seller does have an excellent feedback rating.

Ylaf has been around for a million years for whatever that's worth....

jackstraw,
Ylaf has a long and excellent record on eBay. The Griffey Upper Deck rookie is such a significant and well known card that if there was any suspicion that the card was trimmed or inauthentic, it would be caught. I am confident he would never put it on auction if there was anything wrong with the card. Of course, none of this is in absolute certainty, just likely the case.

I once bought a PRO card early on in my collecting. Card crossed from a 9 to a PSA 9. But once I learned I’d never buy anything but the following.
PSA for 90%
Beckett for modern and modern auto
SGC and PSA for tobacco and pre 1919’s
To me anything else is a crap shoot and the prices reflect that.

Exactly what I was thinking..

Jackstraw,
I see that we thought similarly on this. I looked up the Advanced Grading Specialists website and see that they are out of business. Their web domain is for sale. To appreciate the Griffey card in one's personal collection, leaving it in the AGS holder is fine, but for eventual selling, it has to transfer to a holder that is current.
2deuces,
By modern, do you include 80s and 90s cards in that category? I do buy BGS graded of my favorite cards from that era.

Absolutely. Nothing wrong buying BGS in any era. I just have my preference
