There is a Connor McDavid 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup rookie patch auto 97/99 up for auction at Leland's and it has taken off for the moon. The starting bid was $2,500 and the current bid has skyrocketed up to $70,274 which makes it the most expensive modern hockey card ever. Why such a high price you ask? Well, Connor McDavid's jersey number is 97, and this rookie patch auto is number 97/99.

This record price may be surpassed later this month as PWCC has a Pristine 10 Sidney Crosby RC RPA on auction.
Final price = $113,176
Think you are leaving off the buyers premium.
Holy cow, You're right. Nice call! Man, that is awesome. I love this stuff!
Final price= $135,811
Beautiful card. I find jersey # premiums so strange. But with this sort of result, its only a matter of time before TPG's start using jersey numbers in their cert #'s. Perhaps vanity cert #'s is the next service to be offered...
Wow. Incredible card and price.
What is the reason PSA doesn't include the numbering on the flip?

With the top couple bidders leading to a sales prices that we see on this one, I wonder if it had much of any relevance to them that this one "only" graded a 9 instead of a 10? Are they paying the same price regardless for an 8 / 9 / 10 on this card since they are so attracted to the serial number matching the jersey number? Or does the 10 go for more? I'm sure that PSA 10 of this card with any other serial number does not sell for anything remotely near the price of this PSA 9 that is numbered 97. I also am guessing the price would not have really been statistically significantly different had this one been a 10.

Makes this look like quite an inexpensive deal, despite being numbered out of 24:

That is an unreal price. Good to see the hobby so healthy
