    The FM put out a top quality product back then. Their proofs were second to none and better than most.

    I wouldn't get too excited about the slabbed grade. As JBK notes, the Franklin Mint proofs of that era were of very high quality. Most are probably still in their original packaging, not in slabs.

    I think the appearance is beautiful and the bulk of gold at 1.2 oz is rather nice. The grade? Meh...Don't worry about that as 291 says above....

    I got that from my son, and was only referring to the grade. I don't personally have a 500 Balboas and am a bit envious....
