The Banknotes of North America: The Bahamas

Stretching from the 1870s up to modern times, the banknotes issued by The Bahamas has great variety in the persons and artwork depicted. Below are a couple of examples.


Great Britain colonized the islands in 1718. Full independence from the British Crown was attained in 1973, with Nassau – named in honor of King William III of England – serving as the capital of The Bahamas. As a member of the British Empire, The Bahamas used the Pound monetary system up until 1965, when they converted to the Dollar system.

    @mbwizkid I literally found one of those in a coin shop about 20 years ago and paid a $1 for it, it graded EF-AU and I foolishly sold it on eBay for a lot more - but now it is worth a lot more than what I sold it for. I wisht I had kept it as I sort of like the denomination of a double florin.
