Best Consignment Service to sell Set Break? 71T

Hi all, i have a pretty high grade 1971 topps baseball high series only set (we're not talking 10s here obviously but probably PSA 7 on average with some 8s and 6s).
I figure advertising them as a "setbreak" is my best way to maximize value, but I don't want to deal with the headache of doing it myself.
Any good recommendations of who I can consign with who would list individually?

You're looking at 109 cards with a high Beckett value of almost $1,400. The 65 SPs, which include the Baylor/Baker rookie, will get plenty action, but the other 44 will not get much.
My first thought is sell it yourself, but I don't know if that's an option for you. If you run true actions like say a Greg Morris would, and don't get the action Greg Morris does, you're going to be in for a big loss. If you start them at the minimum you will take for the card you will end up with a lot of them not selling.
I mentioned Greg Morris above because I feel he is a very good consignment option, but in my opinion his fees are a little high. From his website - **Our standard rate is 25 percent of final auction values, plus a 50 cent surcharge on all cards that sell for $10 or less. **
The 25% is a bit steep to begin with, but that 50 cent surcharge on each card under $10 is going to hurt you because that is where a lot of your 109 cards will end up. More than 50% of your cards will most likely get hit with that 50 cent surcharge which will add over $25 to the flat overall 25%.
If Greg Morris sells your 109 cards for $900 (made up total by me for the sake of argument), with 70 of them selling for under $10, you will only end up with $640 after fees ($225 + $35).
I know I didn't answer your question, but these were my first thoughts when I read your post. I guess my advice would be try to sell it yourself. Good luck with your sale.
Thanks Nam - very detailed and good response. the 25% plus 50 cents fee is super duper high. Not sure if that's worth it. I might just list the entire series as it's own listing and see how it does. I'm always afraid of .99 cent fee starters, but maybe $6-700 .
I would probably consign the SP’s and sell the remainder as a lot with a a BIN.
My first thought was with that specific set, I wonder if the whole might sell for more than the sum of the parts after auction fees? In other words, consign as a one lot set?
His fees may be high but he gets ridiculously high prices on most of his auctions.
If you sold them yourself you are going to pay almost 15% so he really is making 10% for scanning, listing and shipping plus the headache of people complaining and returning.
I know he probably gets a good deal from eBay so that helps his bottom line.. I would check a Facebook group and sell the lot there for what I thought it was worth. I wouldn't sell singles because a complete set is much more attractive to buyers..

I don't know the OP's situation, but many people have nothing but extra time lately, so paying someone 10% to do the work that you may have time to do yourself is silly. Also, you left out the 50 cents per card he charges for auctions ending under $10, and that will be the majority of the OP's cards.
It isn't a complete set, it is just the high series.
I should have said complete series.
If he does go the Facebook route he will save a lot on fees and a complete 71 High Numbered Series will be more attractive to a buyer but thats just my opinion..

109 cards total.
Why not offer the set break here for $15 per card shipped and send them randomly to participants.
I know you said you didn't want to do it yourself, but why not put a high, but reasonable, price on the entire lot and see if it goes for nice money. I am assuming these are raw?
If not, I would consign with Morris. He has a great reputation. You will lose a nice chunk of change, but will also not have the headaches with selling the cards in smaller lots or individually.
I do NOT recommend Probstein. He lost some of my items and was a total A HOLE when I asked if he was going to do anything about it. If there is a problem with him he tells you to go pound sand. I have heard the same story from a few others on the boards.
Plenty of people have a problem with PWCC as well. I have never used them.
I recently sold a van on Facebook Marketplace, that was a nightmare.
I swear to god, before I opened it, I thought this was another "oh, you haven't heard? Jewcer is taking consignments now!" threads. Followed by 5 posts from Jewcer like
"Oh, what a strange coincidence. I just happened to be perusing this internet hobby message board when I completely accidentally stumbled upon this thread that mentioned my new service. Allow me to write a 3,000 word commercial. Aww shucks, might as well stick around and answer all the questions people have about my new service, too.
People don't realize I'm a consignment shop now. It's a new service. Naturally, with any new service, people have questions. So fire away in this thread that was created by a complete stranger that I've never met asking about my new service. I have a new service."

I'm of the opinion breaking it up would be hard to net the result you want. My vote is to keep it together, and consign it to Sterling or REA or Huggins & Scott. But keep it together.
Hey all, thanks for the feedback.
with the coincidence that there is the 71 grading PSA special this month, im now leaning towards sending in 25 of the SPs. I figure if I can get 7s mostly, it'll definitely be an upgrade and if a few 8s come in then all the better.
Good luck with the grades!
Is Jewcer the same as PC Sportscards? I used them to sell and was happy with the results and quick payment. i concur with Joe Banzai about Probstein.
hi all, one more Q. some of these are at risk of being OC. in 71s, what do you think is more appealing:
8OC or a 6?
Thanks
Matt
OC is the kiss of death. Obviously it will depend on the player, but I would guess a 6 and and 8 OC would sell for a substantially similar price.
ok just did the form, all no qualifiers. I
hi, all update for any 71 fans- almost 7 mos later and still no movement from PSA ?!??!!? Still in "Research and ID"
Thankfully your patience has paid off in the form of 7 months' worth of appreciation in the market.
