BGS & sheetcuts

I'm aware of the 1984 Topps FB out there that was sheet cut and put into BGS 9.5 holders in large quantities. Is 1984 FB the only set to be wary of or have you all seen evidence that there were others as well?

There were some 80/81 Topps basketball (Bird/Magic RC) and some 1980 Topps Henderson RCs that were graded in smaller quantity than 1984 Topps football and came back 9.5 and 9s too.
There_ might _even be sheet cut cards that got into PSA holders. :-0
O-pee-chee hockey and baseball sheets were readily available, especially in 1984-85. Be wary of any OPC card that is cut with smooth edges and perfectly centered in any TPG holder or raw. Sad to see people paying thousands for sheet cut OPC thinking they aren't. Rough cuts are your friend
Was going to say, lots of hockey has been sheet cut and slabbed by both Becket and PSA. There are a bunch of 74-75 opc rookies that Martin Sports has gotten in various slabs. In fact Martin has cut and slabbed most years of 80s hockey.
And the high grade BGs Orr RC IMO is the most famous sheet cut hockey rc to get into a slab.
As a lifeline collector of opc hockey I look at some of the cards getting graded and just shake my head. Some of these cards did not come out of the pack centred. As in ever. Couple that with sharp edges and its just so obvious they come from sheets.
Every card is sheet cut. All cards start off on a sheet and are cut down to size. In the 80s cards were distributed in various packs, factory sets, vending boxes, cut card boxes and sheets. They are genuine cards and if someone can cut them to fit size parameters the card is valid. I see this as different than altering a card - because it is altering a sheet to create a card. No different than box bottom cards or what is done at the factory. I know my opinion is not the hobby opinion. I think SGC has this correct in grading and labeling sheet cut. That way the collector can decide. I believe it is tough for TPGs to always know if a card is sheet cut.
I have no sheets and if I did I would keep them that way as I think they are really cool. Unless/Until uncut sheets are worth more than the sum of their parts they will continue to be cut. As far as I know I have no sheet cut cards but I think I would buy one labeled that way if it was designated as such. I collect vintage and if I could get a sheet cut 9 for the price of a 7 I think I would choose the 9. If prices were equal I would choose the one cut at the factory. If there were an altered designation I would not buy altered at any price. I understand that delineating altered from sheet cut is difficult (impossible) and many see them as the same thing.
Completely agreed re: Martin Sports. How those mint and gem mint grades happen for OPC known condition rarities is beyond me. I've said it before on these boards- the Bonds 1987 OPC is an easy target. Don't get fooled, that is if you don't want to spend your money on cards that were cut from sheets at places like Martin Sports instead of the OPC factory.
I don't have any BGS 84 Topps Football Sheet Cuts, but I'm 99% certain I have an 84 Topps Football PSA 10 Sheet Cut. I like it though, so no worries.
