This thread is going to showcase a unique item in the hobby. Matchbook covers! This is a Sandwich thread, the kind of thread to view while eating a sandwich.
WARNING: I do not own these matchbook covers, this is just a showcase thread.
Feel free to add on, if you dare!!

The Mick.
This is the inside of a Yoo Hoo Mickey Mantle matchbook. It says to mail the matchbook cover and .50 for an autographed kids ballcap, and if you want an autographed baseball to mail $2.00 and the matchbook cover. Very interesting stuff!

Not mine, but I used to have one just like it- with the matches intact, as I recall.
I had no idea they slabbed these. Must the cover be removed from the matches as a matter of course?
Yes.

Honus Wagner. I wouldn't have this one graded, the matches are too cool to remove!
A couple of Diamond Matchbooks. 1936 Joe Stydahar HOF RC:

Meant to add that @prgsdw has a big number of Diamond Matchbooks.
In 1980, Liberty Match Co. in Massachusetts issued a set of matchbooks featuring sports figures. Most of the sports figures had Boston ties, but there were others like Aaron, Mays and Brock. Each player was made in 10 colors: aqua, blue, green, hot pink, lavender, orange, red, salmon, tan, yellow. I have 9/10 of the Yaz run. Here are 2 of them:
The Liberty set also included HOF RCs of Larry Bird and Ray Bourque. I don't have a Bird, but here is a group photo including my tan Bourque with matches intact. @initialD has a couple of Bourque slabbed by PSA.

Makes sense, I guess. People probably don't like it when their collections spontaneously combust.
Here is a few of the Larry Bird rookies DBesse mentioned.
I found this advertisement for the 1980 Liberty matchbooks. Pretty cool!
Stan Musial Biggies.
Jackie Robinson.
In that ad they butcher the spelling of Bourque.

I didn't notice that. That is horrible!
I own only 2. They were included with an assortment of collectibles that I acquired. They're fairly plain, especially the Yankees one.
.
The Reds one is a little more interesting.

Even though I don't smoke, I've made it a point to pick up a book of matches from each of the different casinos I've ever visited. I can't tell you offhand where they all are at the moment, but these were extras that were handy in the kitchen drawer. There's a baseball player on one, so it kinda fits the theme of a sports collectible.
Thanks @countdouglas, those are awesome. I like the plain look of that 78 Yanks matchbook, and that Reds matchbook really pops with color!
Pete Rose hit king.

Ty Cobb.
i have a bag full... some where, prolly not sports related tho
I was actually trying to find a Ken Griffey Jr matchbook, but I don't think any exist.
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
do they still make match books? Here is the only one I own:
IMF
Ha! I got that new Acuna Vape Pen cartridge though. It's the "showboat" variant!
Awesome stuff everybody! Here is a matchbook of one of my favorite players of all time Y.A. Tittle. He was the tough as nails quarterback that was in one of the most famous photographs in sports history. He was photographed on his knees in the endzone with blood on his face. This matchbook is one of the more pricier. It appears that Beckett may have graded it with the matches still inside, but I'm not sure.
I could be wrong, but guessing even back them, those "autographs" were preprints.
I wonder just how much stuff walked out of places like these. Matches are meant for taking, but menus, signs, etc. Some stuff would need to be smuggled out for sure.
I can't recall if I actually stopped by the one in Hawaii or just thought about it. We were in for just a day on a special port visit when I was in the Navy. We anchored out and were shuttled ashore. Time was very limited. Drysdale was still alive when I was there, but what were the odds of running into him at one?
Awesome Don Drysdale @mrmopar, here is a cool Christy Mathewson Pedro's Rum matchbook.
I somehow missed this thread even though Dan gave me a mention above! I love the matchbooks posted so far. It's a really enjoyable niche for sure. Here are a few from my collection.
All together I have around 250 or so from the 1930's so far.

Not sports, but kinda cool. Picked up during a sportscard purchase. Quite old and all matches still intact. Army Air Corps changed to Air Force in June 1941
And my only Mantle contribution, its a beater but hey...no need for GPS cuz it includes a map to get there!! But don't try calling the phone #, I don't think you will get thru!!
