1980/1981 Donruss Test Info

Does anyone know the history on these? Are these 1980 or 1981? They have the 81 design, but PSA has both 1980 and 1981 listed. Both appear to be in the registry, but look identical. I'm thinking PSA started down one path (1980) then discovered they were 1981's and started graded down that path (or vice-versa).

Pretty sure they were issued late in 1980 as salesmen sample like items for the 1981 set. They also had larger versions of the cards. They were always called 1980 Donruss test back in the day. They were pretty available but each dealer seemed to have only one of each and they were too pricey for me as a kid. I believe it was supposed to be the 1981 design but for some reason they changed the design. If I have anything wrong here I am sure they will change it.
