I found this in my 4th grade homework notebook dated March 23, 1976. What perplexes me is: did Messersmith attend spring training with the Dodgers in 1976? I thought he was already a free agent at that point. He signed with Atlanta on April 10. I don’t think I would have written it if it didn’t happen!

He was a free agent in n December 1975 with that status affirmed in early March 1976.
So he was not in Dodgers spring training?
I have to double check. Maybe it was 1975, not 1976.
According to Baseball-reference.com, he was granted free-agency on March 16, 1976, and signed with Atlanta on April 10th.

I also just checked on Newspapers.com, and according to the Tampa Bay Times, the Mets' spring training began on March 23rd, and Seaver made his first start of spring training on the 25th against St. Louis. He did give up only two hits, but he only pitched four innings.
So Seaver did not pitch on March 23, 1976.
